Well ever since I built Hellgate:Lian-li I've been wanting something smaller. Because I'm in college I also wanted something I could take on a plane with me. So I built the Fozz-x Box (Lian-Li) PC-300b but the way it's set up is still too "big" for my suit case. So I've decided to build an HTPC. The first Case I looked at was the PC-V800b from Lian-li because it supports a full size ATX Motherboard, 2 HDD's and 3 CD Drives. This was almost perfect except for the Layout. The way it's setup I feel makes it clumsy to add a 240mm Radiator and would eliminate 2 of the CD drive bays For me to mount my Harddrives. Also It would have made me wary of throwing all three of my hdd's in the case because two of them are raptors and 2 5.25inch bays sounds awfully hot. So the search went on for a better suited case and to my dismay there a very few designs available. So I guess I'll have to do a Homebrew/Home made case. I messed around with a few designs and after a while I decided to go back to a M-ATX motherboard. Once I go quad-core there'll be little reason to overclock and in my experience overclocking is very seldom worth it IMHO. So I started planning out in sketchup and that's where I am today. Summer is a ways off and I won't be able to work on it until then anyways so I might as well make some good plans now. Here is my first layout. This is just the components in their desired positions. I want to decide on the layout before I go into any design elements. What do you think? Any suggestions? And I realize that the spacing is off. This is just a layout.
Ohh and if you can't figure it out the HDD's are at the front of the case and the Motherboard is at the back
Custom. I'm trying to get it lazercut out of aluminum. Then I'll do the bending by myself with a bending brake or possibly have it done depending on how much it costs. I'm drawing up a sketch for lazer cutting now but with all of the measurements it's really a pain in the ass.
