Hello everybody. Well I have had this idea for quite some time now. So follow my twisted brain around in this small universe that developed and read my ramblings. There are alot of influences that i will list after where i explain the idea. Seeing that gaming has become somewhat stagnant in endless reruns of the same old stuff. How about this idea: A hybrid between FPS (CoD4/Crysis/TF2/CoH to name a few) all the way to grandeur RTS (World in Conflict/SupCom/StarWars Empire at War/EVE?) -Massive MMO (anything MMO) -So the game starts off with a single small battle, that grows to a war on a continent, between continents, planets, galaxies and so forth. -Naturally, to begin with you have limited tech, you need to capture resources to research tech. You go to battle over resources and everything else. -A world that evolves around you even if you are not in it. But you can still evolve yourself. (Spore comes to mind here, though not the creature morphing stuff, more like that when you have enough points you get promoted, so basically you go from grunt to team leader to (machine) commander to battle commander and so forth) -If you die you lose some stats, resources and that sort of thing. Deposit your resources in an independent bank that grow with the world. Anything can be regained in one way or another if you die. You can also loot other corpses for cash and medkits. (Think DiabloII/WoW) -Because someone can or will take your place in your world, you have to constantly fight for survival. (Neutral Safehaven provides shelter. Think of it as you "dissolve" when you log out when you are in a safe haven, when you log back in you regain all your stuff and global rank.) (You can genetically alter yourself if you have enough resources to pay.) (any MMO) -The ability to play all the way from foot soldier over commander to emperor (or whatever you choose to call yourself) -Jump back again and take command over a single soldier/platoon/army/planet. (Remember it is your character.) So from the ground up: Select your race, background, faction and alliance. (NWN) You set off as a civilian. You can join a trader group or the army. Army. As a grunt you can select the fairly standard options. Type of grunt and so on. Tweak your weapons by getting upgrades. (Crysis/Insurgency) -Warp between battles where you are most needed with a personal transporter sort of like star trek or worms. A small penalty in the form of travel nausea applies for a small duration of time. -Kill to gain achievements and unlocks (C&C Generals style) and pickup cash, ammo from the corpses. -You get promoted too. Order others around firstly on a squad based mode, then as a battlefield commander like Battlefield 2. -Use vehicles and make your commander happy. Remember: He wants you to blow up that building, you decide if you want to. Trader. Avoid being captured or killed when factions battle and gain your power economically instead. Trade resources between factions. Buy another ship/starship and grow. Underbid others to win trades. Set a bounty on someone else. You decide. Who knows. Given enough cash you could buy an army yourself and let others do the fighting for you and you still rule the planet/galaxy. Reap the benefits of buying and selling if you are so inclined (Transport tycoon style) (More to come) Army After you gain the title of battle commander and beyond it switches views to RTS'esque style. But you can still zoom in to almost 1. person view. (Hitman) and all the way out to the boundaries of the continent/world/galaxy. Wage war on an epic scale with thousands of troops/starships. If you gather enough followers your power could be endless. Or get overthrown by the next in line. Remember you can actually go back to FPS style game even as the highest rank. So how is that for a start? Comments/suggestions welcomed. Please point out obvious flaws. Right now my head is weary from all this typing and thinking. I need sleep.. If this seems way too thin and response is overall negative i will ask the mods to remove the thread.
theres a hl2 mod thats an fps rts hybrid forgottern what its called tho. Also isnt there an issue that if the rts was really big you would have say 4 players in the rts world and 1000's in the small scale.
Great idea! it would be great if you could play rts and sometimes for example pick one your soldiers and attack in fps )
Tried that one. Decimation. Idea is good until you realize only one side gets the RTS/FPS and the others FPS. The RTS/FPS guy cannot command his troops or enter the tank in FPS mode anyways. Well, that is up to the game mechanics to solve.. Sort of like a mathematical rule to the number of players in the RTS world can only be a fraction of the number of the FPS world. So if you join the mmo early you have a bigger chance of getting to the RTS part you want or you can be "elected" Or have bog standard AI injecting random soldiers like when you "build" a squad of grunts. The RTS guy gets them under his immediate control with no interaction from the FPS guy. The FPS guy will just see those troops as "Bots" that he cannot control. But if he gains enough rank he can control them by issuing orders like you do in GRAW, INS or BF2. Hope that helps in understanding.
I downloaded it ages ago, it didn't work. It was the chief reason for me giving up on the HL2 modding scene >:-/
I'm a bigger fan of sandbox gameplay than ones that require you to pick what you want to be. Don't get me wrong, it sounds interesting, but simultaneously, it sounds a lot like what warfare is like in Eve Online (mentioning eve is starting to become a trend with my posts )
