Is this the season for new fans being released ? as Thermaltake announced some new "riing" fans yesterday. If so, how about a new fan round-up ?

Can I ask why it is that more fans don't feature PWM?

Cost ? Does the PWM gubbins make a fan more expensive.

I had a feeling i was stating the obvious when i posted that.
Maybe i should have looked up how much those gubbins add to the cost of a fan, other than using an extra cable I'm guessing there must be some kind of circuitry involved.

Haha, actually it was me being stupid! I thought you were asking the cost of the fans, rather than replying to SchizoFrog's comment :( Then again, the pricing table would indicate that cost doesn't seem to change.. Tbh, I don't know why more fans don't feature it, since a 4-pin connector normally still works with a 3-pin header anyway.

It shouldn't make much difference, just a change in the type of BL motor controller chip used. That plus the extra wiring and I suspect the profit margin is higher on a PWM fan.

PWM makes the fan controllable. This means there is a higher risk of incorrect use leading to low satisfaction.
Narrowing the risk of misuse will increase overall satisfaction. Sad but true in all fields, not only PC components.
    oh, and production costs.
