I would have to say most of the hell raisers freaked me out. I don't know why.. Also not a "scary" movie but I think some of the best filming I have seen was in Signs. That movie had parts that made me freak out. The way they did the sound and filming was superb IMO. I was jumping outta my skin on some of the parts. (maybe cause I was by a surround speaker and heard some of that weird stuff you hear sometimes that lots of people won't pick up) Not many movies scare me anymore. I consider scaring giving nightmares. There are some ok thrillers (jumpy movies) The kind that leave your heart racing, I think Signs was one of these.
Not scary, but very freaky/disturbing; Man Bites Dog - a French film, spoof documentary following a serial killer. Bad Boy Bubby - Austrailian...1st half hour is pretty sick, but it's actually a really good film (one of my favourites). Agreed. Don't think I'll ever forget the sound of razor-wire through flesh/bone! Chopper - a bit twisted (stab a guy, then ask him if he's ok + offer him a cigarette?!?) City of God - not so much freaky/twisted, but has some shocking images (10 year old kids running around with guns). Darren Aronofsky, fantastic director. Brilliant film, especially the Jennifer Connolly nude scene!!
If anybody in the UK has sky tv, and wants to see some really 'freaky' movies, switch over to channel 330 for 'The Horror Channel' La Creme de la Merde, my friends - some of the worst 'scary' movies ever made - bad, but in a good way Cheap gore, and (unintentionally) funny as hell - btw, i recommend 'Back From Hell'.
Audition is probably the only film I've ever seen where I needed to have a drink after watching it in the cinema. if any of you have seen it, all I'm going to say is "kirri kirri".... Sam
I tried to watch this on Film Four Extreme last year but I only watched about the first hour and a bit because it was quite slow going. Only later did I learn the gory bits are near then end.
Requiem for a Dream. About a group of people, and their problems with drug addiction. It is a downfall into a far worse situation than at the start, you really see their point of view. Has to be the single most depressing and disturbing film i have ever watched. That being said, i found it hard to look away. I am only 16, but im sure im not the only person who would think the same. Highly reccomended if you believe a film doesnt need a happy ending to be a masterpiece. Puts things in perspective. Big time. errrmm .... link ... HERE
Nobodies mentioned night of the living dead or canibal ferox. 2 very strange movies especially if you watch the b & w version of night of the living dead. The original ring trilogy gets my vote for strangest film, just got my hands on the box set recently and its still messing with my head.
Scariest film i have ever seen is Dark Water, directed by the same guy who did the Ring. I am scared very easily so won't go into the rather pathetic films i have seen which scared me but definitely Dark Water. You will never look at a yellow anarak the same again! I was watching it with a load of mates, one of which has seen like every film ever released and even he got scared by it!
