Basically now that I've installed my DVD drive back in my PC I'm looking for a free dvd player software since I've lost my Power DVD one or something, any suggestions welcome.
Yeah I searched and found that one aswell but I'm not sure if you need to start paying after say 30 days of usuage I want a competely free one for which I never have to pay and that looks too professional to be free. EDIT: oops now I remember why I didn't install cliprex it requires you to basically allow ads installed on it, never would I do that.
Just to please the "we-don't-know-anything-but-we-bash-ms-for-the-hell-of-it" types, I've always used WMP and it's done the job fine. Not sure whether the more advanced players have any extra features that make them more suitable but it's worth trying. <A88>
i dont use media player as it doesnt seem to like my widescreen monitor. rather than giving u the option of croping the image at the top and bottom it just resizes the entire image so i end up having the whole picture framed in black.
Misleading thread title I use power dvd because it came with the pc. Not really a big fan of dvd's on pc's anywho.
Windows Media Player can play DVDs? it keeps saying wrong unssuported formta or something and Winamp can't play either or you need to purchase full to unlock that potential.
In my experience, WMP does NOT play DVDs UNLESS you install other DVD decoder software on your computer. But you're right, something like ffdshow might be able to overpower those shortcommings.
I must agree, quite misleading. Eh, I'm sure if I turn off adblock and surff for a while I can eventually find an offer for a free standalone DVD player. Back to the original topic- I'd recomend browsing doom9 a bit, they probbably have a free software DVD player. L J
Free DVD players can be installed unsing certain DVD films, just plop them into your drive and it will install automatically if you don't have a player installed. But yes, you can always download them!
Ditto. Also, Media Player will only play DVDs if you have a Codec, which usually comes with PowerDVD, Intervideo, Sonic et al. Presumably VLC has a suitable codec so if you install it, you ought to be able to use WMP for your DVDs. Finally - cliprex involves signing up to advertising..... not for me thanks...
