Hi, I'm thinking about building a HTPC (will make a project log when I start building). But first of all I want to test the software on the system I will be using. And I would prefer free software. Linux is an option..but a last one. So Windows software first. Here is what I want it to do: - Play DVD's (from dvd drive) - Play divx movies (from hard drive of maybe from dvd/cd drive)(I prefer Mplayer for this) - Play MP3's - Display Pictures - .. ? All basic stuff but one important thing, I must beable to controll it fully with a 'Griffin Powermate' (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powermate/) So it should be possible to go and controll everything with 'scrolling' and 'clicking' , I can program the powermate to do alot of different things. So I guess making the 'scrolling' act like pressing tab, or down-arrow and reverse scrolling 'up arrow' will make it alot easier. Pressing it will do a mouse click. The system I will use is this. (my old hardware) Duron 1Ghz 512mb ram 120gb ide drive dvd player powermate bluetooth dongle geforce 4 L PS: may add irda module. (maybe somebody can point out a good usb irda receiver ?)
mediaportal --free gbpvr --free xlobby -- free myhtpc -- free but not being developed anymore. There are plenty more for windows not sure on your griffin powermate but you can find this out yourself. I personally use gbpvr for my pvr/htpc needs but i'm not exactly demanding user on the htpc side. pvr side thats slightly different with 3 tuners in the pvr box.
