http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/5/32616.html Like voice over IP but better eh? Sweet! Replace your land line today.. just needs everyone else to use it now
So everyone that wants to be available for voice would have just set up their server software and then you would be able to "dial" them by going to callto://theiripaddress/ . Hmmmm. Not sure if it will catch on. Especially since with software like msn messenger you can start a voice convo at the click of a button. No-ones gonna want an extra bit of software when the existing messenging client that most people seem to use, has that feature already.
I saw this earlier today, and thought it was a good idea - but only if it's better quality than the other voicechat programs already out there. MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger both have it built in already, I haven't tried out MSN's but I always found Yahoo!'s to be a bit laggy on slower connections. I'll have to give this one a try sometime Plus, with it being P2P will you have the RIAA flooding the network with fake people talking?
Huuummm... Could be interesting.. I currently use VoIP for long distance and have absolutely no problems with it. Plus, I'm considering trying Vonage as my local carrier instead of Verizon...
