    Hi

Can anyone recommend a free pop3 mailbox, the ISP am with doesn't give them with the service and I prefer all my forum subscriptions to be filtered by Outlook but it won't handle Hotmail that way

    Cheers

Gmail does pop3 downloading to your email client.

+Cheesecake Gmail all the way... I use that and MobileMe, but that's just cause I like to make sure Steve Jobs' wallet is nice and padded.

Not since earlier this year - they opened up free pop3 access to Selected countries. UK and US being two of them.

Edit: they have since rolled it worldwide (Sauce ;))

I have a very very old Hotmail account so I can use it on Outlook for free but it's not pop3 so I can't use Outlooks rules to control how the emails are handled.

I had a gmail account but been so long I doubt it's still open, is gmail free?

    yup, gmail is free

i cant remember if hotmail supports forwarding of your emails, if its possible, just get all your emails from your hotmail forwarded to your shiny new gmail account, and away you go!

instant pop3/imap/outlook support for your gmail, also, if you get a windows mobile smartphone/pocketpc in the future, gmail will work off it straightaway with a little setup!
