    The usual array of browsers and anti-virus, as well as:

    Notepad++
    7-zip
    fences (from stardock, seriously useful program)
    VLC (seriously, it will probably play a spreadsheet if you let it try)
    Itunes
    Audacity
    UDK
    steam

    and on the games side of things:

    Dwarf fortress (damn you and you're silly levels of addiction)
    Stranded II
    Alien Swarm
    theres definatly more, they are just escaping me atm

    Most of this stuff I use has already been mentioned. But the one thing I can't live without:

    AeroSnap for Win Xp or Cinch for the Mac

    Gives your non Win7 OS the ability to 'snap' a window to half the screen, like you can in Win7. By far the most valuable app I have.
