... sorry I meant Privacy. Microsoft is giving away copies of Windows Vista Ultimate, Office Ultimate '07, Money Plus Premium, Encarta Premium or Streets and Trips if you fill out some survays (regularly) and install a program that lets them watch what you do for three months. Is it really worth it? Maybe if you install it on a redundant PC. Link and Link
Basically what they are saying is stay good and get free software (applies to 0.5% of people) or be bad and go to jail (applies to 99.5% of people). Applies to US residents over 18 only though.
Bugger, I would totally do that. Most of what I use is actually legitimate now anyway! Guess it would mean a break from dl stuff though, and hmmm... would it still be legal to watch pr0n ? (edit lol: duel boot linux! )
I already get free Microsoft software in exchange for my soul. My employment with the NHS makes me eligible for the Microsoft Home Use Program.
Arr, just go in Redmond, try to get a friend so he gives you a cheap copy of Vista Ultimate. It's fairly simple... Step 1, go in the parking spot where a car is located, at Microsoft. Step 2, deflate the air of a tire without making a hole on it. Step 3, when the person show up, show how nice you are with a car tire pump! Step 4... start conversation. Step 5 "Oh, by the way, can I have Vista Ultimate" Instead of taking 3 months, it would just take an after noon
It's not fill surveys out and install software. It's one of the two. You do have the option of doing both though.
NOOOOO I'd forgotten about that (my dad's NHS too). Well, I shall see what he can get.. hehehehe... Edit: oh, not much at all.
seriously, how many people here have more than one computer? Just get the disks etc. Install it, and don't touch it for 3 months
You need to show activity, else you are out of the program. So you make a program... that moved the mouse on the screen and perform double click actions on IE and goes to hotmail.com, and look for email on its new empty account every 5 min. It's easy to do. As for the survey.. just lie!
Sounds like a good deal IMO. It's not if you have something to hide, but I would guess that's not a too big of a problem for most. I would jump on it if i could.
Would totally do this if it were available in the UK. My computer is piracy-free now so there's nothing to hide . I get a fair bit of free MS stuff for doing CS at uni, and have the £38 Office deal, but really wouldn't mind Vista Ultimate. <A88>
Is this something that your uni offers, or is it something all CS students can get? I study the subject in Cardiff and want free MS stuff! Sam
Anyone who's a full time student is usually open to the software deals - check out your uni software store (if you have one), or just search for student copies of whatever you want.
my linux partition is piracy free. does that count? it's too bad i'm not in the states. i would love to do this. i'd get it all set up with firefox and thunderbird and foobar2k and as many other replacements to ms programs as possible, and boot in once a week to check my email or something.
