    Hello all,

I'm trying to learn how to use FreeBSD in a server enviroment and since I haven't got any money for new hardware, I decided to install VMWare so I could play around with it without having to touch my XP drive.

Anyway after I run VMWare with FreeBSD 6.2 and I run sysinstall and choose Config>Networking>Interfaces>

Do you want to try IPv6 config of this interface? No
Do you want to try DHCP config of this interface? Yes

Scanning for DHCP servers....which takes ages, I don't know if that's normal.

I then get the config window which I leave as is and then proceed back to the prompt.

Then I type something like "pkg_add -r perl" and I get a FTP connection error :wallbash:

Also it's WMWare workstation, should I be running server if I want to use it for web development (blonde question I know)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Ash

How did you set up the VMWare networking? I think you are looking for bridged mode.

Yes I'm in Bridged mode, my main NIC is connected to an ADSL router. I use DCHP to get my address from that router.

VMWare Server (I just installed for the extra options) allowed me to bind VMNet0 to my NIC card.

However still no net access and those FTP errors when trying to fetch perl.

I'm running FreeBSD 6.2 downloaded from http://www.thoughtpolice.co.uk/ if that helps.

    Hi!
    Try this one..

    1. Changing in real machine:
After U install VMware? it`s create 2 virtual NIC adapters , VMware1 and VMware8. So, open Setting of your internet connection and share this connection to VMware1. After this you`ll be have 192.168.0.1 IP on your VMware1 connection. thats all actions on your real machine.
    2. Changing in virtual machine.
Open your VMware and check your virtual machine. then press Ctrl+D and in the opend window check NIC 1. Put mark in front of Custom and check from the list VMware1. So, start your virtual machine, and in virtual network interface put this parametres IP 192.168.0.2, mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1
    Enjoy.

    I hope i help U ;)
