Ok, I bought a second hand monitor form ebay for £50 It's a viewsonic TN panel. Really excellent quality and cost nearly a grand when it came out. I was chuffed with the purchase even though it is quite old it's still superb for using photoshop. Games are a no no 25ms response time. Basically what I thought would be a great idea to buy a freeview box with a hdmi output, so I bought it for £26 from argos which I thought was also a bargain. Thats a 21'5 inch tv for under £80. Here's the stupid bit. I plugged it in. The pic was great, from HDMI TO DVI. NO SOUND! DOH! So I bought a scrat with component out, linked that with a phono lead, and then to a 3.5mm coupler to the 3.5 jack on my my dell sounbar, and thought it would work, but nothing! The only other thing I can think of to do is buy a 3.5 to usb connector and plug the usb into my monitor? I can't see how it could work, but I can't see anyother way. Any suggestions, or is it back to the portable?
Google turns this up http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/catalog/cables/2-port-hdmi-dvi-manual-switch-with-audio.html Looks like what you need...
Chances are the Freeview Box can only output to one source at a time so when the HDMI is plugged in the scart doesnt have any signal output. Sounds like you need something like a HDMI Audio Breakout... if they exist?
