Hi Syc, Thought I'd say hello since nobody has responded. Hi! Someone may jump in, but very few of us fiddle with desktop mac parts I'm afraid. I'm assuming that it uses a proprietary connector, hence your question. Cd-rom drives are pretty cheap to pick up - as little as £6 on eBay, including delivery. £12 + delivery gets you a more modern DVD/CD drive on scan.co.uk? That might be easier than trying to make this one compatible.
Yeah it's a slimline IDE connector for laptops, that's all. For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812203012 That will get you up and running in no time. Old PowerPC Macs used to use many fewer proprietary parts than modern Macs do.
Modern Macs don't use many proprietary parts. The RAM, HD, Opticals, CPUs etc are all off the shelf. The only bit that is Apple "exclusive" is the case and logic board (and even that is an Intel chipset). Some cables are occasionally different for flatness/length reasons.
i have the slimline board but the ide connector in it has the data and power all in one so how to i change it to have pc ide and power connection
