    Hi,

So I've just roughly connected up everything in my new build just to check it would post and everything was fine (I'm always amazed when it just works!).

I have a Coolermaster 690 ii advanced case and I have a question regarding the front case fan connection. There is two connections coming from the front fan. One is the usual red/black cabling and the other is clear. The clear one (3 pin) came unnattached so I assumed this was to go into a normal fan header. The other black/red one is already attached and going somewhere but I can't see anything in the clump of front panel connections...

So is it safe to connect the clear connection? Actually, has this got anything to do with the blue led on the front fan?

I've googled but can't seem to find anything other than someone connecting the fan incorrectly which led to smoke!

    Any help would be great..

    Q.

Ok, so from the top panel connections, the black/red fan cable runs down to connect with the fan directly. Out of the side of the fan is the clear fan connection - this has three wires (3 pin). I'm confused about this.

Does the 3 pin clear connection go straight to the board? I'm guessing the extra wire is to be able to switch off the led via the top panel??

    help!

The 3 pin one should have black, red & yellow wires - the black & the red do exactly the same thing as the black & the red on the 2 pin cable (ground & voltage respectively), whilst the yellow allows for speed adjustment (a 'tachometric signal' having just looked it up).

Afaik (although i've never tested it), you should only have one or the other connected.

    Thanks Pocket,

It's really odd. The black/red cable is just that - 2 cables, so I guess it's just on at full pelt. The other cable which is clear has three cables...There's nothing in the manual about this...so annoying.

Another thing is that the fan doesn't spin up with the red/black cable attached. Stumped.

Does the led turn on, when only the red/black wire is connected? I have a suspicion that the 2 pin wire is used to feed the led, while the 3-pin wire is the one that makes the fan spin.

Nope - the led doesn't light with just the red/black connection.. just to be clear, the red/black cable isn't connected directly to the motherboard - it runs from the top panel to the fan. Not sure why this is but I guess it has something to do with the led on/off switch...maybe I should disconnect the red/black and try connecting the 3 pin clear cable into a fan header?
