Hi All I recently reinstalled flight simulator x, only to rediscover why I uninstalled it in the first place. Can anyone back me up that the graphics are bad or is there a problem? Here is a screen shot of the graphics. TBH the look no different from 2004. Is this normal? http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/713/flightsim.png/ the frame rate is also terribly low, I expected my rig to handle such low res games with ease. Any help>
I think that's actually normal. The Flight Simulator series have never really impressed me with graphics, they're a lot of scenery addons for sale, but imho your money would be better spent on something like LoMac or Digital Combat Simulator, sadly those are only for military aircraft and don't offer the variety of FSX.
Well I can see that your graphic card can't handle Windows Aero... So I am even surprised that you have this nice graphics on your old computer. Old Laptop? You should definitely install the game on your desktop (what I see on your signature), for the best experience
No it's the rig in the description, and it can handle aero, it just automatically turns off when i start FSX. It handles everygame I throw at it 100FPS or more.
all settings are at max in game, it crawls along and it looks terrible. My rig can handle all other games with ease. WTF is going on?
I suppose it's like trying to play space invaders in hd. It just isn't going to look good no matter what
Run in fullscreen, not windowed for starters. I heard performance isn't as good when in window mode. EDIT:Also there is a service pack I think, it comes with Acceleration expansion pack or you can dl it. It improves multi core performance.
Acceleration Expansion pack is installed. I do normally run in fullscreen (doesn't make a bit of difference) but print screen wasn't working when in fullscreen and I couldn't get either xfire nor steam screenshots to work with it.
Ok, go to Nvidia website, and get the latest drivers from there. Install them, but click on "Custom' install. And uncheck any 3D Nvidia stuff. Then, check the box the box to tell the setup to perform a clean install. Once done, restart your computer, and download and install Microsoft latest DirectX redistributable file: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8109 Now see if your games runs fine.
Ok. There is a function to take screenshots in FSX, I think the key is "V" but you can assign one in controls. It will save to some directory in My Pictures folder or something. Anyways the graphics in FSX, especially to someone who has played any modern games, are pretty bad. The planes are OK (some third party ones at least), but the scenery sucks in general. FSX is a good few years old now, and even at the time it was poorly designed to maintain compatibility with FS 2004 addons or something. It doesn't do a good job of utilising multi core CPU's and yet remains very CPU dependent. Powerful graphics cards don't help much, and SLI/Crossfire doesn't help at all as far as I'm aware. Because of the size of the map they can't afford to do it in detail, and even if they did the graphics engine isn't designed well enough to render it fluidly. In any case, FSX is not a game really (not that it is the best simulator either), and so the cockpit has a higher priority over ground scenery. In certain conditions though, I find it looks OK for an old sim, a bit dated but whatever. FTX provide some decent freeware scenery here:http://fullterrain.com/freeware.html and some time-unlimited demos here:http://fullterrain.com/product_demos.html To get rid of the 2D clouds and to get nicer water, REX (not free) seems to be the way to go:http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/
This helped somewhat, it looks a tiny bit better (still a bit dated though) but the textures load correctly at least and it runs smoother. me want FSXI now :/ Thanks goodbytes, +rep
If not, you can try older Nvidia drivers, maybe something screwed up. You see, There is just so many games they can support and optimize the game for, some no more supported games (older games) might cause performance issues. So you can try jumping back several versions of Nvidia drivers.
