Im having problems trying to get my ftp server available to the net. I have BT ADSL, usb modem on a win2k gateway machine running winroute pro. The ftp server is on the LAN - I'm using cerberus ftp. The server is running fine as I can access it over the LAN. Ive forwarded ports 20/21 to the server via winroute, and have also permitted this in the packet filter. Still getting a "no connection to server" message when I try to ftp to the external IP. Any idea's what I might be doing wrong? Cheers, Pha3dr0n
have you tried connecting to it from outside the network? i know here if i try and connect to the external ip i get nothing but from outside it works fine
Still struggling to get my ftp server onto the net. My gateway (not the server) has ports 20/21 blocked. ATM theres no firewall installed (other than winroute pro). Its a win2k rig. Is there some way I can open these ports?? Cheers, Pha3dr0n PS - cant see it from outside the LAN!!!
So your problem is that ports 20/21 are blocked on your gateway. Go to network and dialup connections Local Area Connection, Properties Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), properties Advanced Options tab TCP/IP filtering, properties And check that 20/21 aren't blocked. Just a thought, if you are on a home adsl package then could BT have blocked the ports to prevent people who should be on a business package simply using the 'home' deal. Rgds, Phil.
I had a look at the TCP/IP filtering, and it isnt enabled for either the NIC or the modem. As for BT blocking ports, I havent a clue.
Have you tried connecting the FTP server directly to your BB connection, i.e. not through your lan? If that works then you know that there is simply a config error in your lan/connection sharing. If however when you connect it directly to the internet you are still unable to access it then you have a fault in the FTP setup or BT are blocking the ports. Rgds, Phil.
Hold up - is your FTP server set to passive or active mode? If it is in passove mode then data transfer will not occur on port 20, rather it will occur on a port above 1024. To ensure that data is transfered on port 20 the ftp server must be set to active mode. If you haven't done already, make sure that the ftp server is also able to access the internet through the gateway.
what do you mean still no luck? did the ftp server not work when it was directly connected to the internet? if so then check your ftp settings; its either that or BT have blocked ftp. edit: also see my post above about active/passive mode.
im not familer with winroute pro , but i do use winroute firewall which i think is the updated version. i dont think bt block ftp ports /edit what i said would only work on winroute 5 from there website
Ok - Ive got it working in the gateway machine - one final problem left though. Ive mapped drives in the gateway to the machine I was using as the ftp server, and added these to the user root. Everything is fine if the gateway is logged in, but the drives dont map until the pc is logged in. I have cerberus running as a service so the gateway doesnt need to be logged in. Is there any way to have these drives mapped permanantly so I dont need to login to the gateway? Cheers, Pha3dr0n
Off the top of my head i dont think you can map drives without logging in. Why dont you just leave it logged in? I guess you could try enabling the guest account on the ftp server and see if that works...
Its working !!! Ive had problems with winroute on the gateway - when logged in it crashes after a couple of days; if not logged in, it stays connected for weeks. Hence I usually dont login to the gateway.
i'm on bt broadband (no wires) and i can run an ftp, its not up at the moment but it deffinatly works. some of the newer bt pagages may block it though
