OK!, i've been inspired to make a case, clad in velvet and leather.. My inital concept looks something like this: "OMG, it will set on fire!" i hear you say.. no.. it just so happens my uncle is a professional upholsterer, so i've got flame retardant fabrics... The first picture shows the short hair velvet i got, and also the leatherette, no, i didnt go for real leather, simply because of the price, it's not cheap at all. and the leatherette is much easier to work with... The second picture shows a man made fiber that will be used to make the case... plush... rather than hard to the touch.. just to add that extra thing to it.. make it more pimp as it were I had a slight problem with my camera during the build of the actual chassis so i cant actually show you the process of building that.. all i can show you is the next stage of construction i have after that... This shows the state the case is NOW... the main construction was done with plywood, because its easy to work with... the fabric, as you can see, is all sew'd up, but not stapled to the ply yet, this will be done tomorrow... you might also notice (little hard to see from that photo), there's no drive bays, the reason for this is a cunning plan i have which i will reveal to you all later... hehe The top panel is to be hinged at the front.. and.... this also involves something i wont tell you about, 'sall about the suspence! here's one last photo of the case as it stands...
a man of few words H1ghlander later on today (sunday) i will break out the compressor and the staple gun and staple my velvet onto the plywood, and make necessary trimmings, will also fix the mobo mounts in and line the inside of the case with my leatherette, i've also cut the window into the top panel, something you couldnt see from my photos.
Update: 27/02/05 - 14:27 OK, so i've done some more work today, and thought i'd give you an update on the progress... i'm a little dissaponted about the interest in the log but hey... In the last couple of hours i've done two things.. one of which involved a hole saw, the other this little baby... This is an air staple gun, makes light work of fabric and ply wood, and quickly, my fabric was all attached... The other thing i did was a hole in the rear panel for an exhaust fan... because obviously this case will be getting pretty damn warm.. it will be needed.... And a final picture of the case in its current state...
mhh i hope you´ll get the case cool. this wood/ leather combination is probably a good insulation for the heat inside.
derbaum, this something that i hope will be ok, although i've not made plans for it yet... there is a feature of the case thta MAY help with this greatly.. but i cant tell you that yet emzay strokable it is, very... its my new LAN pillow
no, sadly i couldnt get yellow, so i've gone more pimp and got cream instead will be doing the creaming (hehehe) in about.. 10 minutes.. will post pictures in a couple of hours
if you mannage to make it as good-looking as in the sketch, it will be on fire whether it starts burning or not.
Update Time again... done a lot of work today.. i actually did that "effort" thing my parents keep telling me about ok.. so... the leatherette.... i glued the leatherette onto the velvet with some random spray glue i found in the shed, it holds pretty well so i think it will do... here's the results... can anyone say.. "mooo" ?
lol interesting, not bad though glad you got the fabric to not look puffy with staples. With my subwoofer box i had to spray glue because staples made it puff :O
