    Hey guys

Background: I was looking at the EVGA KO Superclocked 8800GTX which has the ACS3 cooler, or the BFG 8800GTX OC2 which uses the refference cooler. They are both clocked to the same speeds but the EVGA seems to be sold out everywhere so I am tempted by the BFG option ya see.

I was wondering, whats the noise levels like for the refference 8800 coolers like?

From what it looks like to me, its the same cooler on that BFG as any other 8800GTX, so the noise levels might not be any different than the others, you could always buy a water block for it and water cool it, but it is expensive.

Yes I know it will be the same as the others, I am asking for peoples experiemce with any of the refference cooled cards to get an idea if they are noisey or not, you can read reviews until you are blue in the face but for things like this personal experiences count :)

The cooler on the EVGA is pretty quiet, like a constant low paced shhhhhhhh noise if you know what I mean. Compared to the reference cooler on my mates ASUS (Same as BFG) EVGA's cooler is quieter and a 'better quality' noise. Just hope the on board capacitors are not screaming :miffed:

My pair are pretty quiet. However, I like it quieter, so I have a pair of full-cover blocks waiting for my CPU block to arrive.

So the refference cooler is actually quieter than the EVGA ACS3?

I'm still not sure what case I am going to drop them in to yet, the stacker has little in terms of sound dampening where as the TJ09 is better thats for sure....quiet as possible is the best solution I guess. Typical lol

Sorry it was late when I posted that. I should have said that the EVGA has a much quieter sound than the reference cooler. The difference is not so significant but the EVGA certainly wins the quiete test in my book.

If your going for silence then I cannot recomment the Silverstone TJ09 enough. Dont get me wrong since I love the Stacker 830's form, but the Silverstone has simple elegant lines, extreme ease of use and super high quality for almost the same price, the only issue is cable routing to the hrd drives which is easily fixed.

The stacker just has so much mesh that sound can escape everywhere...and the dust bunnies are a major threat too.

Dont take my word for gospel though as I'm sure there are owners of the TJ09 who upgraded to the stacker (probably went back though..he he). If you have the chance to see them in person before buying then that will be the best way for you to decide.

    Good luck :thumb:
