Well I'll be buying my GPU around July (don't need to game atm) so hopefully a nice high end card will be out by then. :)

Looks like microdirect decided they were too cheap, the linked overclocked card is now listed as "£137.01 Inc VAT"

    Tim,
As I've said of the PowerColor Radeon 3850, these new cards don't really seem to move much ground compared to existing products. It just seems like this card is really trying to be squeezed in between the 8800 GT and 8800 GS, and the reference board is appears to be on the same level as the Radeon 3870, even if this 9-series GeForce is attempting to usher in new technologies.

This graphics segment certainly does feel like a great big mish-mash of sameness right now.

Is anyone interested in modded 174.16 drivers for G92?
I just did it, but I haven't fully tested them. At least they work in Windows 2D (WinXP SP2, BTW).
I wanted to play with the new video enhancements, that's all. :hehe:

PD: In case there's any doubts, here's some proof. :D

In that case, I wouldn't recommend it - I should've stuck to my guns based on the RRP, not on the pre-order price Micro Direct put up. :(

Yep, I think there's a column in it given that the price for the Zotac card has already gone back up to £140ish. At that price, you may as well just buy an 8800 GT - it's really that simple and I warned at least 5 or 6 partners of this. Anyone charging over £130 for an 9600 GT is basically ripping you off, no matter how highly overclocked it is.

If you want something that's relatively comparable (and much better value for money), just get a pre-overclocked 512MB 3850.

Its about damn time we will see a way faster 'next-gen' card soon. Because this is getting ridiculous. Because non of the so called new cards are faster then the GTX/ULTRA and those are like 50 years old, 2 times as fath and eat 2 times as much juice from the socket. I dont want new slow ****, i want new faster **** :(

Tim, is it safe to say, then, that the mid-range market is something like as follows?
    8800 GT
    8800 GTS 320
    8800 GTS 640
    8800 GTS 512
    8800 GS
    3870 512
    3850 256

I think it's more like this:

    3850 256
    8800 GS 384
    8800 GT 256
    3850 512
    9600 GT 512
    3870 512
    8800 GT 512
    8800 GTS 512

The old GTS cards are pretty much no longer available. :)

Would you say this card was longer or shorter than a 7800GTX? Mine is dying and needs replacing, but i'm not sure if i'd have enough room in the case...

It's probably around the same length (maybe a bit shorter off the top of my head). If you need a more concrete answer, I can get that for you tomorrow morning.

Just ordered the XFX 9600GT XXX for £140, a little more than I wanted to pay but I've been putting off purchasing a new card for 12 months.
