Pssh, piracy. It's still pretty easy to just download the games instead of actually waiting (gasp) for them to arrive at your doorstep. If they're worried about piracy, they sort of shouldn't.

I've looked into game rental services myself, but only put off by it because I hear that more or less half the time you don't get the game you want and you have to wait a long time for it to be available as they don't stock a profitable amount.

Remember a long time ago when a store in my hometown used to rent games... It was there that I first saw Age Of Empires and StarCraft... Aaaahh.... brings back memories.

The good part was that I had to pay only when I rented the games, so no monthly fees. What do you do if nothing good comes out in a month? You pay for nothing.

Yeah, i think so too. If ppl had to pay like 20$/month and get 3-4 great games, is a great value, and i think piracy rates are gonna drop a little.
Let's say I want to play Mass Effect (just an example): i rent it now for a small fee, finish the game, and if i really enjoyed it and want to buy it, i can wait a few months for the prices to drop and get it then.
    Sweet deal ;)

what's wrong with lovefilm? no idea why they're bothering tbh.

i mean... i can't see why they're bothering. wouldn't encouraging people to rent just eat into the profits they get for, you know, selling games? it's all well and good saying renting makes people want to buy their own copies, but i find that's rarely the case for myself -- i rent games i know i don't want to buy, heh.

If i'm not wrong (typo and color of the logo are the same) Game actually has a rental service in Spain, since years ago. it's very common here.

Great idea. Console games are a total rip off in my opinion. £40 for new releases. I dont think so.

Ive been burned too many times by cruddy new releases that I often rent from block buster at £5.95 for a week's rental, which isnt that cheap, but overall it actually saves me money because I rarely then go buy the game. GOW2 was the exception which I rented and then loved it so bought it.

Not sure I would sign up for a 'monthly rental fee' though. I tried that with Amazon for DVD's. What a load of rubbish. Never had what I wanted unless you were willing to wait ages... and then they would send you something from way down on your list.

As most games take less than a week to complete, Its easier to rent new releases than buy them.

If you have a LoveFilm account you can choose films and games for a small amount extra, then keep them till you complete them.
