Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy is one my favourite books and I have just re-read it and would really like to play a game revolving around that sort of scenario preferably an RTS game. I have World in Conflict but looking for something on a grander scale similar to the book. Are there any stratergy games like that for the modern era? Thanks
They actually made a game of the sub missions from the book, can't remember who did it, but it was very similar to the Harpoon games - by this I mean it was a hardcore strategy game. It dates back to the early 90's, I played on an Atari ST, so I imagine there would have been a PC version back then since it was only strategy games and flight sims on the PC. Whether or not you will be able to find a copy anywhere is anyones guess but if memory serves it actually was a good game but obviously the graphics will seem very crude and blocky by today's standards.
Harpoon has been updated and re-released recently it still looks like something out of DOS but its based on what the screen look like in a warship, take a look for Harpoon Commanders or Ultimate Edition. For something with better graphics take a look at Fleet Command on Steam its part of the Naval Command Pack (Fleet Command, Sub Command and 688i Hunter/Killer) its good and theres also a mod available which adds a lot more units to it.
Sounds interesting. I suppose I wasnt specific enough with my request. Not really looking for individual games for each theatre of war. I was wondering if there were any games where you play as either US or soviet command (for example) in control of at least partial armies, airforces and navies on a grander theatre of conflict scale. Thanks
