    Bring back Doom :D

Man i remember wasting hundreds of hours on those games, i completed doom 1, and the original Doom 2 (without all the extra packs)
Ive even replayed them on the emulators, ah such fun :D
There is nothing quite as satisfying as pure blasting fun

Does anyone remember this level of doom 2 (or was it ultimate doom ?) (sorry for the bad pictures, the doom emulators don't do screenshots, no apologies for the poor graphics though :p)

It took me like 3 days to do that level, taking chunks out each day :p

OMFG, so many good games getting mentioned here! :D

For those of you looking to play some of these old games on your bad-ass C2D rigs, there is hope.

    Abandonia + DOSBox = :)

For those of you who loved Transport Tycoon (or have never tried it and want to), there is a remastering of sorts called Open TTD. :)
Works really well and cost me tens of hours recently when I got re-addicted all over again... :D

    Downloading Syndicate now... :D

Sonic the Hedgehog (first) was maybe the most memorable game of my childhood.

Keep the physics and gameplay the same but update the graphics, please.

Tomb Raider 1 was also pretty damn great.
Half-Life 1? It has some better gameplay and AI than Half-Life 2.

I guess the remake of Settlers 2 is what we'd hope for for most of these games. 3D-ified graphics, a couple of bug fixes, better sound and no other changes at all.

    Perfect :)

Whilst I really understand your column, I can't help but feel that if I were given the choice between the game studios working hard on new and exciting titles that I haven't yet played, being ever more creative - or rehashing old games that have been played, conquered and enjoyed previously - I think I'd choose the former.

Oh yeah, LBA was a fantastic game, one of my favourites of all time. I would love to see a decent remake.

 Thirded, Mechwarrior was part adventure, part first person mech combat (with 3 additional mech pilots to command), part trading (negotiating mission prices and buying & selling mechs), part diplomacy (be less concerned about who your missions are for than who they are against). It had soo much replay value too

Another game I'd like to see professionally redone is Star Trek: Birth of the Federation. Awesome game with great replay value but Very VERY much in need of an interface and AI update.

The problem with remakes though is that they often miss the mark. The original Pirates! was a brilliant game but the remake, while almost an exact conversion, felt so repetitive - As someone once said, "Nostalgia ain't what it used to be." I think our expectations have gone up a LOT.

What about LBA2? In my opinion it was better than the first. Some how they managed to put so much atmosphere into that game. I still remember loads of bits from that game I enjoyed it so much.

one game I've always thought fondly of is "Raid on Bungling Bay" for the C64. Pretty fun game in it's time.

Same with "mission impossible" and I'm sure someone could do a good job with the old arcade game "Twin Dragons".

Wouldn't mind seeing a Dr Who game come out one day.

    my 2 cents

good choices! Deus EX dosn't need remastering, it needs a real sequal :D

May I add warzone 2100? not many people have played it but I think it's the best RPG ever for multiplayer when it works properly. there is an open source version but it hasn't been updated in a long time as the source code is a knarly POS thats badley documented. I plan on fixing some of the bugs sometime and cleaning it up abit but it's going to take me along time to get knowlagable enough. Thats how much I love this game :D

Doom 2 co op multiplayer is very very fun... can't get past the level where you have to kill satan though?

For me, first an foremost. Wing Commander 2. Best in the series IMO. After that, the classic Lucasarts adventure games (Sam N Max, Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones, etc).
