I'm sure you know the story of one of GW's sculpters, Michael Perry I think. Blew his right hand off with a cannon during a re-enactment display and had to relearn to sculpt left handed. Turns out better work left handed than he did right handed. I am thinking of trying to paint under a magnifier, see if that helps me at all.
Well just found out my death company is complete my better half has got me all the remaning stuff for my birthday so I have alot to build and paint on the list for building and painting are: 11x Death company marines 2x Chaplains 1x Death company Tycho 1x Brother Corbulo 1X death company Dreadnought 2x death company rhinos So am starting to put a bit of thought into my next army just to plan it out and give me some incentive to get this one done, as i wont buy a new army till I finish the current one. I'm leaning towards the Dark Eldar as my next choice as i do quite like the idea of a win big or not at all army as it lends to me more than others do. Anyone got any ideas and such that they can share about my thoughts on DE and if maybe a diff army would do better?
just swapped 20 cadians, creed, 2 tanks and a battleforce for a load of empire stuff. 20 halabards 20 pikemen 20 hand gunners 10 crossbows 10 swordsmen 6 outriders 8 knights 2 wizards master engineer 2 valten models. quite please
Pretty good swap their, also apprently new Empire book in April. I do need to get painting again, though got a few leaning finecast models to sort out, compared to their metal counterparts which stand up straight.
Mournfang looks brilliant, would you mind saying how you did the fur? I'd like to do something similar on my thunderwolves since it looks bad ass.
Can anyone recommend how to paint white robes or a tutorial for it please? I have to order a load of paints again today, since i was unable to rescue my old citadel ones, paint is rock hard. So I was not able to start painting this weekend, i really should have checked if i could rescue my old paints prior to ordering some paints last week.
White is a bitch of a colour to paint nicely, what sort of style of white are you going for? Very cool white or a nice warm rich white, almost a cream colour?
cheers... Gilljoy, basecoated the mornfang in scorched brown , then washed the whole thing badab black, i then painted the mouth area and various fur tufts bone white and gave those bits a wash with devlan mud. I then dry / overbrushed all the brown fur in kemri brown , and then eventually finish off with a bone white ( light ) highlighting drybrush , i dont wash my brush between drybrush highlights as i go through lighter shades as it helps to get a subtle mix on the brush , i also use a really soft medium no7 makeup brush for the fur as it allows for delicate drybrushing. white areas were just overbrushed with bone white after the wash...
going for the creamy white style. i've seen some tuts but they just look greyish or white to the point you think they're trying to promote Vanish oxyclean or something
Take a look at the ivory in the Vallejo Model range. That has just enough to take the white away from pure.
Looking as wonderful as ever, Phil. I think you should think about entering armies on parade this year! With a nice board, those would go down very, very, nicely. While I am an Imperium Purist, I love the size of the new Chaos thing from Forgeworld. Wish the SM stuff was even half as imposing as that thing! the contemptor looks more and more like a teddybear with each look I have.
aye i'm buying that paint, but wanted to know how to go about painting a white robe. I know usually you use 3 paints, 1 for the basecoat, 1 for midtone, and 1 for highlight, and you just mix those 3 to build up the highlights and shadows. Wondering what colours to use and how to go about the shadowing/highlighting really
Yep - already told the manager of my local shop i'm entering a.o.p , not buying any pre made board by the way , it's all going to be scratch built , at the moment i'm not sure whether i'm going to add another unit of ogre bulls and ironguts to the army....... may just pick up the battalion box and convert the leadbelchers into bull / ironguts.
Well, after all the excellent advice regarding my copy of Space Hulk I finally broke out the paints (hey, learning medicine takes all my time!). I'm reasonably happy, but need to work on the tidiness. The 'Eavy Metal guides are also really hard, I gave up in the end as I simply can't do what they're saying.
White is built up from codex grey, can use devlan mud to darken the recess more, then its a highligh of fortress grey and codex grey (ratio of 1 to 1) to everything bar the recessed areas. Then a thin highlight of fortress grey over all but the most recessed areas. Then its a 1:1 mix of fortress grey and skull white to the uppermost areas, then a final highlight of skull white to the most promient folds of the cloak. For a more creamy white can use rotting flesh or bleach bone to give a more creamy cloour once you star the white highlight. Loooking forward to seeing the board, any idea's of what you will have?
There's an article about Warhammer on the BBC News website today. Why are grown men still launching tabletop war?
Just at the planning stage at the moment , got to source a 2ft by 2ft piece of scrap timber first , going to build up some rock formations at the back of the board using modelling foam (really cheap off ebay) , main surface of the board will match the basing of my models and all the army bases will drop into cutouts in a layer of cork sheeting which i'll attach to the top of the board , thinking of of adding an ogre butcher to the army (shaman) next to a pit / pile of corpses... think im also going to need some cheeky gnoblars on the board in various places just to mix things up a bit..
Ah, I thought I was set on having a Guard army then I went to my local shop to see some of the models and my inner evil came out screaming at me to start up a Tyranid/Chaos/Demon army.
