For supplies i use whatever suits the job best tbh. Combinations of various paints and inks and stuff. One thing is for certain to me though, i never ever use GW brushes. Admittedly they may have improved alot in the time since i was last actively painting but i doubt they'll have improved that much. Get to an art or model shop and buy some proper brushes, you wont regret it.
I tend to use sable brushes - My experience with Citadel Miniatures brushes has been.. Poor at best. For some reason, they refuse to clean as well as sable brushes do. Everything else is Citadel, though.
Unless they have changed them recently, all GW brushes (aside from the drybrushes) are sable. The drybrushes are boar. Having said that I wouldn't put it past them to change to a cheap alternative like they did with the superglue. Nobody who works there uses Citadel glue if they can help it.
I've not used a citadel brush since... Err.. Well, a long time. They do look better, but I've still got my brushes I've been using for other things for numerous years. Yeah, I forgot about glue, I tend not to use citadel stuff, either. Humbrol poly-cement tends to be my glue of choice, Loctite for metal models.
My brushes always seem to go rubbish no matter what I buy or do, . My latest brushes were some Italeri ones I bought for my airfix modelling, they're not too bad. My problem is the small brushes always come apart and you lose all accuracy with them. Been using a small airfix brush one on my necrons, not too bad.
i remember few people recommending sable brushes when i really got into the painting aspect of the hobby eons ago. *must continue resisting temptation of dipping back into this hobby*
lol, yeah, I'd stick with that, I think I've probably spent £100+ so far on it. I now have two basic armies, necrons and chaos. Luckily its all been from ebay, if I'd bought it from GW probably would have been £300.
With my brushes, I clean them as best I can while painting, then after the painting session I use some warm tap water to make sure it's totally clean, then pull the brush through finger & thumb tip. This is going to sound weird. Prior to storing them, I lick them. So place brush on your tongue, far enough back that you cover the bristles entirely, close your mouth over the brush and pull the brush out. The spit helps keep the bristles in shape until you next use them, which for me, has usually meant the brush keeps its shape and doesn't "spread". I try and use a piece of plastic to cover the bristles, too, so they don't get knocked in storage. Though, typically only on size 0 and below.
I do the same with mine, especially the fine detail brushes. I use GW ones that I got off mates when they stopped playing. The spit trick works a treat.
Just had a 1500pt game, sadly we didn't get more than two turns in, but we drew on kill points. I lost five scouts, three marines, one terminator and a landraider, he lost five assault marine sergeants to my EC & Marshall, seven scouts to my termies in CC, two in shooting. One squad took down a member of his command squad.
Nice, how long that take? Now that I've started painting my chaos space marines, its got much more difficult, . As the necrons are just one colour, with a few little bits of highlights, whereas chaos have got all sort of bits all over them.
Yeah, I don't envy Chaos painters! I was at GW today watching (while painting) a Grey Knight/Daemon game, and the work some of the players must have put into their Chaos units... Damn. Err, that took about five hours start to finish. I was doing some work on the diorama, though, so probably only about three hours of actual work. I am not looking forward to the Storm Raven - It's probably going to take longer than even the Baneblade took, which is not comforting.
Here's my first chaos space marine. Not quite finished yet, need to get some of my old paints off my mate so I can do the horns. oh and here's my necron lord and the first few warriors
Looking good, man! Finished squad three, the predator, and got the majority done on one land speeder.. One land speeder and one predator left to do for the 1500pt run. I painted some "holy orb of antioch", too, because they're hilarious and dangerous.
=P Certainly looks that way! They're devastatingly over powered, too. They can be carried by any model, and they can be thrown up to 12" (instead of shooting) using the small blast template, they wound on 2+ regardless of toughness, and are automatic glancing hits if any part of a vehicle is under the template. The thrower can also charge in the assault phase.
Finaly got my grey knights back from my mum and dads. Now to get some brushes to paint them all up with. Anyone able to recommended a place for decent brushes at a decent price or is the only option games workshop?
Well i've been researching brushes and apparently the Winsor & Newton Series 7 Kolinsky sable brushes are the best. Expensive but for extremely high quality that last it seems worth it. If you want cheaper then there's quite a few options, Vallejo Kolinsky sable brushes which are about half the price
