I'm not a big fan of GW paints but the new reds are brilliant I painted the above guy using Khorne red and then the crimson wash followed by wazdakka.
I think after Christmas, probably Jan next year, I'm going to have to splash out on some new paints. Hopefully won't be too bad, as I might have a job by then. Trying not to buy too much stuff at the moment, especially when I have already got paints (just a bit thin), and I've got other expenses like car insurance coming up. Damn money,
The reds do look really good, im tempted to pick them up and just replace my old ones. Anyone know if theirs much of a differnce with the old fountains vs the new bases- aside from their being more bases?
i really liked the old mechrite red luckily ive still got two pots.... khorne red is more like mechrite than mephiston red
So, I need some help again. Everytime I try to paint with my brushes (the GW ones), as soon as my brush touches the paint or model the end of it instantly splits into two big clunks. It's just making it impossible to paint accurately and I'm not if it's just GW brushes are bad or I'm doing something wrong.
How old is the brush and has it been used for drybrushing etc? If the brush had paint on it and went brittle then it can split. Ive got 2 pots of mechrite/Iyaden/mordian, though i have found the mechrite does not cover as well as the Iyaden/Mordain but it could be a bad pot.
It was the first time I'd used these brushes that have done it. Just using them to paint some armour on my wyches, no dry brushing etc.
If it's a new brush and you've not gotten any paint up top near the metal I'd take it back to the store. GW are pretty good at replacing things that are from bad batches. I had a detail brush like this, but I can still use it, just twist the brush in the paint before you apply it. You do have to do this more than usual though. I just cba to buy a new brush!!
FYI chaps, got my hands on the edge paints - they are literally just layer versions of the dry paints as suspected. Will be trying out some mixing methods to try and make the drys act the same way.
I was interested in those edge paints initially until i saw the price of the set.. ill probably just wait now until they are released individually (which im pretty sure they will be) Been working on this little diorama... also been working on this guy... (try not to zoom in he looks better for a distance ..)
I thought that you could water down the dry paints already? Sitting waiting on mr postman brining me some more daemons. i'll post some photos of the next set once they're painted
I've had mixed luck with making dry paints actual paints again, I want something repeatable (For me at least). It's all looking good Phil! I'm not so sure they will be released unless GW do another wave of paints. I find it hard to believe they'll listen to customers on this issue and ignore them on so many others. I have a sneaking suspicion that the sets of this paint up for sale are simply because they had to order X thousand pots, and the 'eavy metal team would never use it all.
Im not to sure about the dry paints- though most of the sets sold out at my local store- only the 2 fantasty armies left from the Christmas offers. Im half tempted by the empire one or the necron box but dont think i can support another army atm, i still have the HE army set from last year- still unbuilt.
The empire one apparently can't actually make a legal army from what the empire players in my local store were saying - which I found preposterous but not knowing much about fantasy I couldn't question it
I've been tempted by the empire boxset, my fiancée and I are having large models as our table centre pieces at our wedding next year. I want an empire army, she wants a Karl Franz. We got the zombie dragon and mortis engine a few months ago, the box would have gone down nicely! That diorama looks mint phil! I'm working on a little project I want half finished by sat. A bloodbowl stadium.
