It's not from that article. It's from insider sources that post to the biggest fansite in the world for GW and other model games. Warseer. Copied to here for people who don't read Warseer: Ladies and gentlemen, if you'll follow me right over here, we have prepared some carpeted tables for you to bend over on while we shaft you... Forgeworld don't mass-produce; Games Workshop do. The prices should go down, not up. This is them pricing more and more people out of the game. I gave up playing long ago.
Huzzah! They're now what euro prices look like.... Except in sterling. So their sales outside the UK should f***ing plummet and damn deserved if they hike the prices that much. Well... almost. Those prices are still alot cheaper than the euro versions. Currently Dante is €15, which is 13.09 sterling today. Tycho... is €17.50. That's over 15 sterling... Though oddly, the Terminator Chaplain is 'only' €12.50 and in a size comparison vs Tycho, that's a much better deal but I still wouldn't pay it. I got Ghazghkull for less than that. It's hardly surprising that their sales go down.
This what i hate about GW. They've spent years forcing indies and small shops out of business with agressive pricing and now that they have largely got rid of the competition they're going to ramp prices up however they damn well please. Resin is a **** load cheaper than metal, period. This is disgusting and they will royaly screw themselves, hopefully they'll realise this.
And that price list is why I always used to buy my figures from the bay and why now I'm getting back into it I'll still buy from the bay. one other thing however has anyone got a copy of the new Tomb Kings book they can look at and type up a description of arkhan the black and his flying chariot for me as I've decided to convert 1 and I'm unable to get the new book until next week.
was just going to paste resin kit info but saw ph4lanx already posted...some of the fantasy models have about 40% price increase which is ridiculous in itself but when you consider that resin is cheaper to produce than metal it is daylight robbery. It's also not just the new kits but everything will be seeing an increase in price by end of May for USA and Canada, no word yet on increase for EU and UK, but pretty likely its coming. GW pissed me off more than 10 years ago with their price increase, but that was ok since I fell in love with computer games (CS 1.6) and had hardly any time for the hobby, but now i'm even more pissed off because I want to restart and I have spent hours upon hours browsing and researching everything, and they pull this ****. Hope GW sales take a nosedive and they realise that they can fleece people only so far. I'll look at other manufacturers, hopefully someone else produces lizardmen type models (apart from the lizardman hero released by avatars of war) edit: and also they will be introducing new t&C that they have effectively forced all independant stockists to sign, which is that their products can only be sold to UK customers (and other non-EU nations in europe).
I remember when Dante was first released: £5 in 96/97 IIRC @liratheal (and anyone else for that matter): keep posting pics! I like to peruse them when I'm procrastinating!
ive a bunch of tau models in a box somewhere, used to collect but havent been able to affort it much lately, but my painting is terrible >_< FOR THE GREATER GOOD!!
btw if anyone is interested, Maelstrom games site are doing a deal whereby you get 18% off the RRP of any games workshop products if you type in GW-ROW at checkout. They also have free shipping. So if you wanna get your GW stuff before the price increases hit, better order before end of May. I'm still considering whether I should bother restarting at this point
Had a funny incident yesterday shopping in the local games store with a friend. He was buying a couple boxes of Ork Boyz and noticed that three of the boxes contained 11 Boyz, but one of the boxes had photoshopped a boy off the front picture and replaced one of the boyz on the back with a text box reading "x10". Funny thing: Same barcode. Same price. Even the shop owner was unaware of the change and said he'd call GW the next morning to see what the deal was. My experience was much better. Went in wanting to buy a Hellhound, they didn't have any so I bought a Manticore. Holy **** those are fun to build! Left the entire missile assembly unglued since the design of the model holds it in place without glue so now it can be removed in the even of a Weapon Destroyed roll. Out of laziness and urge to get the model ready for play I lightly glued the missiles themselves on but plan to carefully snap them back off once I figure out an easy way of attaching them temporarily so they can be removed one by one as it fires. My plans don't immediately call for two Manticores but now I might have to grab a second just to have fun with.
Its NOT RESIN, its something totaly different, its a new line of models that GW is putting out, announcement will be on Monday 23rd of May with the models in store on the 28th of May. From what i know the scupliting that they got with the grey knights/dark eldar its better my local GW manger said it would blow my mind- they cannot say nothing till the launch on the 28th lots of confidetiality agreements. Also GW are changing the way they relesae news of their products, at current its 3 months before release. It will now be a week before the release that it will be anounced in White Dwarf which comes out the saturday before the release. So if you want the info you have to read white dwarf. Warseer has to be taken with a pinch of salt as they get alot of stuff wrong, people post fake news up their and people take it as the truth.
The price rises are confirmed, and can be seen: http://secondsphere.org/index.php/topic,128313.msg1456055.html#msg1456055 http://secondsphere.org/index.php/topic,128313.msg1456056.html#msg1456056 (Click the 'Spoiler' link to show the price list) The information is from a GW price list sent to a (IIRC) independent retailer, so it does seem accurate. Granted not all items have had price rises, but it still seems crazy nonetheless. GW really don't seem to like having customers.. I remember pricing up a 1,750 point Tau army a couple of months ago - along with all the paint and hobby tools - and it came to something like £450 (if being a bit smart with how I bought things). Which to be honest isn't too bad in itself since you could potentially spend ~100 hours assembling and painting the army, then potentially hundreds more hours playing matches with the army. So when you put it like that, it seems fairly cheap (especially compared to PC building and gaming). But I realise that most people don't just collect 1 army nor buy 1 army and then not buy any units ever again, so I can see that the prices are such that playing GW could easily cost thousands in ££ every year. Meh. A tricky situation. GW certainly aren't being smart about things, though, IMO.
They're even bumping up Codex/Armies books prices???!?!? How in the holy name of all thats ****ing buggery can they justify that?
This is why I'm using ebay, My Chaos, Necrons, tyranids and paints, have in total, cost me about £180 so far. 1k point Necron Army 800 point chaos army 500 point tyranid army (battleforce + tyranid prime)
do you guys, wen you buy from ebay, buy already assembled stuff and then strip them of paint and repaint? I was thinking of doing that, but i find assembling them myself is good fun.
My Ork playing buddy bought a few unpainted Stormboyz on Ebay and hasn't bought any models second hand since. The cost savings just wasn't worth the loss of fun and sense of ownership that assembling gives. I've recently scooted past 1,000 points and it's cost a fair deal buying all first hand but I think it's been worth it. The local tournament starts at 750 and goes up 250 each week until 2,500 so competitive play will cost even more. Maybe any future second armies will be bought second hand.
