Now whilst I do not have any plans to give up on GW products, they are still some of the best plastic minis that are out there, I think that can be almost universally agreed on regardless of their business practices... I just won't be buying as many (unless they come out with more funny light hearted stuff like the BB Gnomes, I have been looking around at other bits and pieces, more from just a cool thing to paint as I really don't play anything these days (although I could probably be talked into an odd game of Blood Bowl), and I took a look at some of the Unit 9 minis that are available for printing and decided to pick up a couple. I thought I'd grab a few female ones because I don't have much experience with them, plus why not? And of course, I am an absolute sucker for bionics on models - my orks and marines all have them whenever they can be added: Ok, so these are just the render images and the prints won't be quite as sharp, but I am looking forward to seeing how they do come out.
I said to myself some months back I was going to get another Tantalus if they ever came back into stock and finish it this time, well. It happened again.. I think it's going better this time, though, there's not a whole lot of warping going on, and most of it has gone together clean. The cockpit thing at the back needs some work, the points where it meets the main hull are pretty wide. Too wide even for greenstuff. Time for some heat I reckon. I also picked up an Archon, which I promptly modified, and a Lelith Hesperax. In my mind the Archon is doing a 'scarcrow fear gas thing', so I tried sculpting smoke from a grenade in the archon's hand - The upper torso that is meant to hang off a raider/tantalus - and a Lauka Vai upper body with some.. Let's say subtle modifications Oh, and the joke of a flying stand it ships with isn't going on. I'm thinking I'll doll that block of resin up nice, and give it a little bit of a circle because it's holding everything nice and stable, plus gives me some more height than the ****-tastic flying stems.
Right then, managed to get 3 of the guys painted for the Puppet's War Orc Team van: First up we have BA: I have changed him a little since this, gave him a bright red shirt, looks much better. Next up, I painted Hannibal. I still think that this and the BA model should be swapped in places on the van with BA driving and Hannibal being the roof gunner, but this works too: Then I moved onto Face: Murdock is not going to be easy to paint as there is not really anywhere I can drill for pins to go whilst I am painting him, at least none that will not be visible afterwards. I will probably just drill his feet and then fill the holes afterwards. I also need to pick up some more primer and black for the van, but I shall do that at the weekend, I still need to get the parts of the van put together which will involve a fair few pins, lining up those will not be fun, I might just have a go with a 2 part epoxy instead as super glue alone will not cut it. Still waiting for the cyberpunk models that I posted earlier to ship though, really want to get those and see how the quality has come out.
Nice. I do like Puppets war minis, I've only got their Barghest Fiends and a ruined cathedral. Managed to win the painting competition they used to run with the Fiends: https://www.facebook.com/puppetswar...59632095689/?type=3&mibextid=rS40aB7S9Ucbxw6v (Yeah I was the only one entered, but I'm still claiming to be a prize winning painter!)
Wild to me that so many people have so many Ork sculpts and GW just.. Don't bother. Or at least, don't seem to. I, somehow, finished some more miniatures. Technically all my Dark Eldar. I say finished, I haven't decided on basing just yet. Nor on whether I want to paint some kind of symbol on the sail on the Tantalus.. Nor am I super happy with the panels on the Tantalus, but it's getting so hot in my office I don't get much painting time so it's kind of lost its lustre at the moment.
Skulls Month/Week/Whatever for those that are interested! Discounts for the Skull Throne! @Pete J - seen the DLC coming for Boltgun? Must admit I was keen at first but the trailer looks a bit more of the same, so turned me off a bit. First one is an epic (see what I did?) in its own right. However, after all my unanswered questions on this thread re: Battle Sister, I just grabbed it from the Oculus Store for the planetary tithe of six Terran pounds. Will report back. Also also, Abnett's Titanicus is due for reprint for anyone who didn't manage to grab a copy back in the day (but I reckon you wizened psykers already knew that). ++TRANSMISSION ENDS++
Had a good day at WHW Yesterday, solid fight with my Tyranids and a friends Kreig vs Kreig and Black Templars and managed to eek out a minor win after an absolute clustertruck Melee involving 2 land raiders, 20 sword brethren, and 10 terminators facing off against my Hive tyrant with Tyrant guard, 10 Genestealers W/ Broodlord a Haruspex, 2 pyrovores over 30 hormagaunts, and a squad of Venomthropes before on the last turn we decided to just fight simultaneously and my hive tyrant was felled, but in his final breath he felled the Sword Captain with him
Reporting from the front, I can confirm Battle Sister on VR is pretty wicked, although aiming seems to be slightly off. I also felt a bit sick after an hour or so, which I'm going to put down to the presence of nauseating Chaos runes everywhere. Still, I did have impressive chest armour for that hour.
May have snuck in a cheeky purchase before the hike of the SM codex, a couple of painting handles, a vindicare assassin, oh and a redemptor dread
Has anyone looked into Trench Crusade much? I watched a short video about it and I have to say that it looks interesting. The game premise is that during the crusades, the Knights Templar discovered an artefact in Jerusalem that unleashed a demonic invasion and the world has been on a holy war against them since then with the current setting being almost a World War 1 setting of endless trenches with a the full on grim-dark holy war still ongoing with most of humanity fighting the demons, but some (of course) siding with them. The concepts for the official minis look pretty awesome, but like Turnip 28 there is a big focus on kitbashing and proxies where you want.
Wowsers. Dark indeed. I just spent more time than I should have soaking that up - had to stop when I saw the lore timeline video was an hour long...
Yeah, I was going through a few of the various bits and pieces until I stumbled on the inevitable venomously "anti-woke" video and associated comments about how bad the Trench Crusade devs are and so on... Kinda got burned out rather quickly after trying to read through any of that and decided that I should really be getting back to work.. Really liking the design aesthetic of the setting and some of the models and inspiration for them are epic, you can certainly see a lot of John Blanche inspiration in there (as it should be for this sort of setting), and given that one of the primary devs of it is the same guy who had the major hand in Mordheim... yeah, liking it. Not so sure that I will get into playing the game, I don't play much of anything at all now, but I am certainly interested in getting hold of some minis and the source books.
