I saw a little bit about it when the "urmaghurd 40k is woke" crowd looked for another grift, and promptly got roundhoused out of Trench Crusade. It looked really grimdark and Blanche-y, but it didn't tickle my fancy. I'll tell you what did, though. My Catachan revisit. I need to paint some eyes, but I also need the paint not to be drying on my brush to do it, but otherwise. Two earthshaker carriages, one platoon command, one veteran sergeant and two commissars knocked off the backlog! I've got the four Leman Russ' on my desk, I need some parts to finish the sponsons on two and I can get to painting those too. And the Medusa. And then, maybe, I think my backlog is like.. Four models. So.. Nine? I guess I'll buy something else..
Nice, I was working at FW when Tony Cottrell was designing the artillery carriage for the Earthshaker. I think he was originally looking to go with tracks and I seem to recall something being said along the lines of "Imperial Guard have treads, Orks have wheels". He also did the static platform at the same time. now you just have to keep your eye out for a sensible priced Catachan Colonel. There are plenty of them about, but they are all still silly money for a single plastic model.
I don't know why, but the static-slash-more-static-than-tanks artillery pieces really tickle my fancy, more so than most of the mobile artillery pieces. Wheels was definitely the right choice for this one, though, tracks would have looked too goofy
Remember we were chatting about why don't GeeDubbs expand their operations? https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/business/warhammer-firm-games-workshop-build-9344258.amp
They have been planning it for a while, but they have also been in a massive back and forth with the council over 'infrastructure upgrades' also known as 'we dont want to pay to avoid another turd explosion on our front doorstep but apparently whatever that holdup was ( GW threatening to move their entire operation to the east midlands hub everytime the council told them to pay ) has been sorted and the project can FINALLY get given the go ahead im hoping they use the new space to improve the gaming hall at WHW tbh, move all the Metal moulding stuff on the ground floor to the new building, and then move the shop and exhibition halls downstairs into that space, then add more tables ( especially the really nice flagship tables ) in the area that is now the shop so its a little bit quieter. ( id also chuck up some curtains or sound deadening panels over the main hall because on tournament days it gets REAL loud in there being a concrete and plaster box with nothing to deaden the sound ( apart from the ever more fleshy neckbeards anyway ) sadly they wont, because they LOVE having the store in the gaming hall so everyone can see in through the doors at all the overpriced plastic and resin on display
So long as I don't see "temporarily unavailable" as much, I don't know that I really care what they do. It'd be nice if they made the gaming hall slightly less.. Loud, but I don't imagine that factors into their list of things they care about, since it doesn't overtly make them money.
i mean in a way it does, if gaming was more comfortable at WHW, then i could see myself playing there more ( and buying dinner at Bugmans ) and i admit, most of the time im there i do pick up things such as my Ta'unar, but alot of time, i just prefer to play at home where its nice and quiet and i dont have to spend all day shouting across a table
Yeah, it definitely gets eyeballs on the store and the bar, but there are some people (not me) with self control
They seem to be doing well:- https://www.personneltoday.com/hr/bonus-boon-for-games-workshop-employees/
Must be that boycott courtesy of women in the Custodes. So much for not painting because hot, I'm impatient. Finished up the Leman Russ' collection, and enough of the Medusa that if you don't look inside you don't know it's not done:
Seeing your Artillery gave me the Artillery itch, but im currently working on my Chaos knights so what to do... Might put some bigger feet on them, and maybe some kind of arms on the Twin cannons to load the guns, but im pretty happy with this so far
Grr. Trying to get hold of the Pariah Nexus mission deck, but only the fleecing a holes on eBay have them in stock. Will they get reprinted at some point?
Been having a little nosey through the fun little world that is Etsy again and came across this little Dwarf engineer designed by Avatars of War. Goes nicely on a scenic base that I have had kicking about for ages: Already got the base painted up, always great when the drybrushing works out right....
Looks like GW are finally going ahead with the factory expansion: https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/nottingham-news/games-workshop-spend-9m-brand-9460973
...and regrettably, we've had to raise prices as a result --GW We weren't vibing with the colour of Keir Starmer's tie... as such we've had to raise prices... This day ended in Y which has spooked investors... as such we've had to raise prices. etc.
its currently at the table on the council to decide, although Nottingham council are getting seriously fed up with GW's constant Bitchfits about paying for infrastructure upgrades because the site simply isnt designed to be used how they are using it and everytime the council are like 'yeah you might want to pay to upgrade power / water / sewage, then GW's upper management throw a fit, and threaten to move everything over to Eurohub
With the irony being that if this had gone ahead years ago, the infrastructure upgrade would have been easy, at least on the power side of things as the existing local substations could have been simply upgrades with additional earthing works to accommodate. Now that there are new residential and office buildings, space is limited and as the performance of a ring based earthing system depends highly on the amount of ground the ring can enclose, things are not as easy now. Plus there is the tram and anything rail related is a nightmare when it comes to electrical installations, everything has to be separate and apart from influence of other systems. Being involved in things like power earthing for substations, I can understand completely why GW don't want to take that on, but if they want to expand then someone is going to have to.
yeah they got the power situation sorted a few years ago, but im not sure if they have enough capacity for the new factory, and i think GW have softened slightly in their hostility to infastructure upgrades ever since Poopgate ( which is where they were told about a decade ago that they needed to upgrade the sewer lines because the sewers were built with light warehousing in mind, and not hundreds of sweaty neckbeards and an on site pub, GW did what they always did and ignore the problem, until the sewer basically exploded outside, shutting the company down for serveral days ( and forcing GW to pay lost earnings to others on the estate as it was basically their fault )
Got a load more done on this Dwarven Engineer fella: Need to improve the contrast on a few bits around the skin and beard and the trousers need work, and then there is just the general tidying, looking at a picture like this, I can sport quite a few bits that I missed such as a bit of the gold bleeding over to the silver on the gun barrels and the ropes need more work.
