i mean 40k has never been a bastion of practicality, its not a weapon you can aim down the sights on, but assuming it has some laser sighting module hip firing wouldnt be too bad, recoil would be an arse to deal with but Supersolider and gyrojet ammunition would fix that
Or maybe just blast your way blindly into close range then start swinging, making sure everyone else was about twelve feet away. Or just use Segmentum Rounds, which destroy the entire galaxy with one shot and give humanity the chance to ooze from the soup and try again.
Greetings folks! Been a while since I was last on here. I hope you're all keeping well and I'm delighted to see the thread still going strong! Well, 2025 was productive for me as I was running a "hobby challenge" with my local gaming group to try and encourage people to make headway into their pile of grey, inspired heavily by The Independent Characters "Hobby Progress Challenge". We had 13 entrants on average every month and a total of 149 completed units last year. This year we're set to increase that hopefully to above 200. I used 2025 to make a start on my second army: Leagues of Votann. Also to finally clear the Knight Crusader from my backlog. Going to be using my Votann in a team tournament in July, which will be my first tournament in over 20 years. I still don't know the army rules fully, so I need to really get the reps in. Have 1,600 points fully painted, with a unit of Thunderkyn, a Kapricus, a second Hekaton and the last bits to paint on a unit of Hearthguard and I'll be at my complete 2,000 mark. Had another dipping of the toes into alternative orks and this is Bruzgob da Warboss by Mezgike miniatures. Got it off Etsy and it came in about 20 pieces, very nicely printed with minimal cleanup and all in quite a quick paint over the weekend.
Best have a chat with them first. Looks like the sort of invite to the group that would likely get a few black balls in the bag (so to speak)...
Thankyou. That was probably about 2 minutes of "work". I base coated the base in Steel Legion Drab just in case anything showed through later, then it was some ordinary PVA and a dipping in Feek Gaming Scenics Scubland from their base ready range, followed by a few more little spots of glue and static grass. Doing the grass straight after the grit basing means that you get those little tufts but also the odd bit of grass in between. Side note about the base ready scrubland, I will not be buying that one again as it comes with little bits of green sawdust-flock in it. The problem being that the dye used on those green bits of sawdust is not colour-fast and can bleed out resulting in a green layer of glue. Next time I shall be buying one of the same sorts of grit but just the grit and rocks by themselves. That Defiler is pretty cool. I won't be getting one as it I prefer infantry sized painting projects and I don't have much in the way of chaos marines and stuff to put with it. It has some impressive spikey bits to it through, but the armour trim, gives me the PTSD eye twitches....
After breaking through the innumerable mass of troops, I finally got to tanktown and have once again cleared my warhammer backlog. A second Inq28 retinue, a 'Grimdark' glue method Ravener kill team, and the Word Bearers & Red Scorpions finally all tanked up ..Now, what to do next winter.. Probably ought to finish the Dark Eldar.
so far in the last 12months, since i actively tried to restart painting, i have painted: 1 kill team sergeat (previously shared)... ... and nothing else :/ I have (in the last days), clipped, cleaned and undercoated the next 4 kill team, so i might make some progress there and I have also been playing with bits for the first of my dread-trio, but its still in bits, and still awaiting bits to be ordered. oh well, i'll work through the pile of shame eventaully. I can paint when im dead right? right?!
Oh no a new knight... My bank is already crying. I buy knights in pairs. A new size of knight too. But I do like it visually think in my gold n red it's going to look good. Already planning how to add the LEDs
i feel that, in the last few months ive basecoated my Heirodules and a norn Emissary Not helped by the gaming group i played with basically winding down one guy has just not gelled with 10th and the more competitive nature of it and how much of his army has gone to Legends, one is basically working every hour god gives him to pay off uni bills and another basically started drinking the Right wing cool-aid, especially over the Femstodes release
Way... way ahead of you... I picked up the Zeratul promo mini when it was announced at Spiel Essen: ... And I pre-ordered a starter set the other day: The minis themselves look really well done: And obviously this is a professional job, but Zeratul looks flipping fantastic when painted up:
They do look nice, I've banned myself from buying stuff like this, I'd never play it as I don't have friends ect and it's another thing I'd never paint for now sticking to my Gubdam style models where I just panel line and I'm done I love the build but I hate painting now no clue why I just find my self frustrated with my results hating what I've done and then hating the hobby.
do you actually hate the task of painting ? or is it that after the work you dont get a result you are happy with ? comparison is the thief of joy sadly, it took me along time to get myself into a position where i am sort of happy with what i can produce, even if it is just basic rattle can and washes for most of it
No it's painting I hate, I colour blind so I struggle with that part and I just never enjoyed that part of the hobby I have the attention span of a goldfish so I start a model never finish, my ex hated to make the models so I used to make and she then painted. I've never been on to compare myself to others. I don't mind painting some model types but I got some sisters of battle and just hated them so they are made and primed and in saving up to see how much it be to commission pain them.
Might I introduce you to the starter set of Primaris marines I bought to practice painting, which have been sat on my shelf for about 3 months after undercoating them? My issue with hobbies is that I kinda 'soft rage-quit' when I'm not immediately good at something. Objectively I know that 'getting good' at a new hobby needs a lot of practice and time, but that doesn't change my immediate reaction... These days I try to go into something already knowing that I am going to suck at it. Rather than being demotivating, I find it easier to identify where I'm going wrong and what I can try to improve. Case in point: painting miniatures. I'm really struggling to get a good consistency of paint on a palette, and a big part of the issue is how the stupid Games Workshop paint bottles are designed... It's really hard to actually get a decent amount of paint on the palette that I can work from. I've been toying with the idea of just giving my GW paints to my brother and buying Vallejo, Army Painter, Two Thin Coats, etc, but I'll try to persevere for now.
Yeah I've not used many GW paints I mainly have Vallejo and Army Painter with a mix of some of GSW stuff, I'm happy with what I paint I'm at a level I never thought I'd be at P_20230729_134146 by Kehoe posted 31 May 2025 at 11:14 P_20230729_134234 by Kehoe posted 31 May 2025 at 11:14 P_20230729_134304 by Kehoe posted 31 May 2025 at 11:14 If never of dreamed of being able to get models to look like these but it's the joy of painting just never had I prefer to alter making stuff it's why I slid towards gundam something I only discovered a year or two ago. It doesn't help I have to move home when me and my ex split so I've gone from having a house to a very small bedroom so no space. I used to go to WHW and paint but you'd get back seat painters and criticism and it just put me off So I try and get things I can either slap chop or speed paint, then make better but the sisters are just two small for me and I'd rather pay to get them done than they sit blank
