Having just received a Steam alert advising Space Hulk: Ascension is now on offer, I checked out the video. Which has raised another question: Given the confines of a space hulk don't even allow for Terminators to pass each other on the way to the canteen, given most combat occurs in tightly twisting corridors at a moment's notice as aforementioned space gribblies jump out from cupboards and given dudes sometimes don't even wear hats.....WHY THE FAAARK WOULD YOU EQUIP A CYCLONE MISSILE LAUNCHER?!?!? Dave from the armoury is surely having a laugh. "Yeah, yeah, I know you said that stormbolter kept jamming last go around, but look! THIS goes on yer shoulders and fires a hail of incendiary/hull-piercing artillery rocket shell bullets that will utterly disintegrate anything in your path. Just be the point man, yeah?" I'm down for adamantium-clad suspension of disbelief. I'll even get on board with Sanguinius having tech-wings or anti-grav rather than being actually sent from Heaven on feathers. And I'm committed to all this new tech even though they struggled to make the STC of a knife or whatever. But tactically? Come on. It makes no sense. You might as well flood the ship with radiation from a distance then just walk in and claim what ya lost. You're sending in elite troops in the best armour, armed with guns that jam, other guns that explode, flamethrowers that deny areas to both sides and yet can still sometimes be strolled through if you're a bit careful, no hats and missiles. Other dudes in Kill Team have shields and shotguns because they've figured out it's a bit close quarters. Kind of struggling a bit with this missile-y one.
Well maybe they take the rocket launcher incase they meet a really big monster, and in deathwing the game your in a massive space hulk that could need missiles. Some hulks are city size so could be they are some times needed. Better to take them and not need them and wish you had them. Deathwatch the board game it was hordes and hordes or geneStealers Vs 5 terminators, I think they did terminators to make it feel like they could take on a full ship.. send in the elites ect *seal team ect** where lore wise normal troops where squishy. I love the whole space hulk vibe. Space hulk the board game i love. I regret selling my OG version.. Boarding action style that exists now didn't.. And if you want to really break your mind Imperial lass guns that the gard use can recharge in sunlight or throw them in a fire to recharge.... Just sat building my custodes. Models are amazing but my gripes are with the female models.. 1 why did they have to have a bust shape torso as surly the normal one would still work. It's armour it could just be genetic it feels odd they now make a male and female version, the imperial guard have male and female and they are the same flak armour and the other thing is they give the females nipples it just make me laugh like the batman back in the day...
it seemed to work for a day, then decided to break, i used to use IMGUR, but thats not totally blocked in the UK, which is annoying for users that dont use a VPN but the TLDR is i scored a Battlefleet gothic starter box set, i have quite alot of 3d printed BFG but to have an actual starter set that i can play at WHW is nice there are a few niggles, some of the imperial cruisers suffer from being 'short shot' and the plastic hasnt quite filled the mould full and the prows are a mess, so im pulling out a dremel and replacing the prow with a 3d printed alternative
The reason is alot of the interior of a space hulk isnt tight corridors, but large open rooms, bits of spaceship mashed together, huge and open Cargo holds etc but the Genestealers ambush the Terminators in the tight corridors to help nullify their obvious advantage in ranged combat
@Kehoe @lilgoth89 @Almightyrastus (and anyone else who paints!) a question for you chaps: do you bother to clean minis before painting them? I have a friend who puts them in an ultrasonic bath, but that seems a bit overkill. I've not made any special efforts to clean in the past, and have had no issues with the primer layer sticking.
Plastic stuff, no. Resin stuff, depends. I've had some that have been quite slippery when they arrived so gave them a wash, just under the tap with a little washing up liquid. Other resin bits looked to be fine so I never bothered washing them. So far I have had no issues with paint sticking.
Plastic models nope, unless they look shiny as that's normally the release agents, but anything finecast or resin I've always washed. I have a big jar of ipa so Normally dunk them in that then with a electric toothbrush give them a quick scrub. Or if they are more delicate models just warm water and the smallest drop of washing up liquid as to much can leave a film on the model. But day to day WH plastic nope just build clean the flashing off and then a good prime.
Very much depends on the model material and also what I have been doing with it. Cast resin - hell yes, that gets all the soapy goodness, normally in the form of hand soap and a big soft paintbrush to thoroughly degrease everything and get that mould release off. 3D resin print - not normally needed as those are often cleaned with iso alcohol before curing which does a pretty good job of cleaning shmoo off them Filament print - not got much experience with this as I don't do much larger or terrain stuff. Plastic - generally not washed if brand new but a quick water rinse if I have been doing a lot of filing or sanding just to get all the dust bits out of the armpits and so on Metal - Not a bad idea with new as these may still have the release powder on them. In general, it doesn't hurt, but not always needed.
You made me Google if i was a mad man but my jar says Isopropyl alcohol (IPA), Then I realised ipa is also Indian pale ale. I don't drink so it didn't click for me. I've now built all the custodes from the new box, just working on bases
Basically this Plastic ? almost always no, but i have had occasions where the plastic feels a little greasy as some of the mould release agent hasnt quite come off FW resin ? ALWAYS, i dont know if they even bother to watch their release agent off, so VERY often its into a tub of Warm water + healthy amounts of washing up liquid and an agitator overnight 3d print plastic ? no, its just straight on with the primer 3d print resin ?, this is a trick question as you have to wash it in IPA after you print it anyway
Just gone to rebase all my older custodes to match my newer theme.. and I'll need to buy some bases.. I need 6 they sell them in 5s but then I cannot for the life me me find any of the ball joint flying stems.. it's going to be one of those projects I where I have to buy 3 times as many things to just rebase from a scifi theme to more doomed world theme. Why do we do this to ourselves
i feel that, ive just finished up rebasing my knights using 3d printed base toppers and that was a ball ache, nw im starting the same process again with my larger tyranid bugs, ( the smaller ones who are tabbed into their bases might also get the treatment but i will have to split the base toppers up ) we do it because we are masochists, thats the only explanation behind painting up some 300+ gaunts and then deciding they all need re-basing
Today has been a day. Built and undercoated 38 minis! (the entire contents of the space hulk box). I dont know whats come over me!
Nice!! Some good newer models in that box, beyond the standard "I'm squatting here in the same manner, no matter what I'm armed with" hunchback Terminators and the "Surprise!" space gribblies.
yeah, some of the sculpts are ace. My particular faves are the genestealers poppin out the floor (bottom right) and the kneeling ripping up the floor terminator (right) Ive got them all base coloured now, so they're basically back to the colour of the plastic sprues... EDIT: just to be clear, those are not my photos, just taken from the web to illustrate!
