Just basecoat the fur with a dark brown , basecoat the face area with a lighter colour (flesh or light brown) give. the fur a wash of badab black or devlan mud , give the face a wash of devlan mud or ogryn flesh ( dependant on the face coulour) then for the fur gradually dry brush highlights over the fur high points using lighter shades of the base coulour then finish off with a suptle dry brush of bone white.. for the face id highlight thew washed base coat with gradually lighter version of the basecoat .
Just before the discussion on bases Mike - I found two, so if you PM me your address I'll send them out ASAP.
Got myself a box of space wolves from the girl friend for my birthday today so plan on getting them and the rest of the wolves built up over the next few days. Also picking up an airbrush at long last from my parents tomorrow, expect alot of pictures and possibly questions over the next few days Happy new year all.
Liking that black, not too solid and flat. The edges of the crosses look a little fuzzy though. What head are you going for? I am getting into the mixing and matching of heads and other bits at the mo, thinking that some of the Grey Knights ones are looking mighty tempting.
I am going to wash over the crosses and clean them up when i finish it off rastus, as theres a few more layers of red to do on the shoulder pad and then the washes to apply too
Also just noticed you talking about heads.... Im tempted to use a GK head that i have as I have a squad of them im never going to use or at least not for now
Theres a really big cheat for him...... spray black (i use army painter) then from right above him driectly spray white so that you get a good coverage but only on bits that are exposed, you then simply wash it with badab black till your happy.
I've seen that used before its really cool. If you've an airbrush you can do something similar, spray black, spray white at an angle, then spray alot of very very thin coats of the colour you want. Bam instant shading / highlighting
Love that shading technique its very effective.... never would have though of that myself... Anyway back to painting half naked fat guys with moobs .. Latest ogre standard bearer.. Close up.. ( do you like the crude ogre art i freehanded on the banner ?) Bit further away now so you can see the part painted gnoblar guy shouting orders from the crows nest on top....
Can you post me some of your painting skill phil? Amazing work as usual. I've been doing occasional bits on my tyranids, nearly got my HQ Tyranid Prime done.
I've recently been drawn back (partly thanks to this thread) to Games Workshop after many years away from it and managed to do a bit of painting over christmas. Finished off these scouts with boltguns after I blew a few years of dust off of them: And also painted some with sniper rifles: I've still got more scouts to get painted, as well as a landspeeder storm (some more scouts on that too) and a dreadnaught. Currently in the middle of painting up some Assault terminators, but with the short amount of daylight at this time of year, they will have to wait till the weekend
Very cool. Love those cloaks, nice and simple and breaks up the shapes nicely. Just picked up some Grey Knights so I can make up a small squad of Sword Brethren for my Black Templars. Mixing and matching from the Grey Knights and the BT bits set. Just need to get a hold of some bolt pistols to replace the storm bolters, pretty sure I have a few kicking about somewhere.
Did you see the ones on Forgeworlds facebook page? I forget the guys name, but he'd kitbashed GK terminators with some greenstuff, and Black Templar bits - Looked wonderful.
