Ghazgul is a nice finecast although it doesn't look that tough to paint , id be tempted to add some rust to the mech arms and legs , freehanding the checkerboard effect that seems to be common on the 40k orcs and would be a bit tiresome , probably give that bit a miss... i did a few warhammer orcs before i discovered ogres.. these two were quite nice to paint and were my first foray into the black chipped armour look.. The painted resin bases on these two are crying out for some grass clumps , good job i picked up some middenland tufts the other day... So finished an ogre bull tonight , i'm particulary happy with the face on this guy , i really do need to start painting in the eyes.... Started doing some crude tattoos.. Also finished prepping and primed the man trap whip guy... and started basecoating... As you see i've shortened the whip from the thundertusk model......
Phil if you want a challenge grab the ork warboss on a bike from forgeworld the kit is huge and looks epic. Nice orcs there and looking forward to seeing this ogre
I do like some of the new vampire count stuff if im honest, But if i try my might in fantasy I will be getting a skaven army, I am drawn to a clan pestilens army
New VC book preordered along with that lovely model of Krell, made the right choice picking VC when I started fantasy. Also I absolutely love my airbrush, it arrived today and its a real gem. Buypainted put a really good video on youtube of painting space wolves which I'm trying to copy, gona take some time to get good at this old airbrush lark but just for base coating and very very simple highlights I love it.
I think I'm going to get one when i save up some pennies, as although I do have the supplies and stuff already its a car sized air compressor so wont fit in my house and the air brushes are rubbish. Gilljoy what airbrush did you get and what paints you using with it, you using standard GW paint or something else?
Similar situation here, I'm using a compressor that was initially designed for use with a nail gun, turned down the psi to a nice usable level and bam, airbrush compressor. I do have to paint in my basement though lol. Yes I'm using GW paints atm. Looking at buying some dedicated vallejo model air paints for my metalics since there an absolute pain in the ass to thin and it would make painting my remaining grey knights alot easier. Heres a few photos I've taken of what I've done so far, excuse the horrible gloss varnish thats just there because it has a nice capilary effect on washes more pictures here imgur album
Yea going to deffinately look into a small hobby compressor as i can't use a car compressor as i have no garage or basement. And will look into the vallejo paint too as I have been told good things
The VC stuff looks interesting, but I really cannot be ****ed with fantasy. Incidentally, does anyone want to buy a Fantasy rule book? The large one, of course, never used? Anyway, onto today: Began painting the RS Librarian: And after a conversation with Forge World, I'm pretty much required to take Commander Culn for my RS now, to have the apothecary in one of my squads, so for the sake of not buying another Culn I decided to roll my own in the pose as on the Badab War part One (IE: http://image.bayimg.com/oaahmaadh.jpg that). This is my first real use of GS in this sense, so.. It's not so terrible so far: The keen eyed will notice it's not quite the same size as a terminator - It's not. It's closer to "truescale" size (In that it's barely bigger than what a truescale marine would be, much like termies are meant to only be around a foot taller than a normal marine). Obligatory comparison shot:
Still got a long way to go with it, but that was as far as I could get with non-hardened greenstuff. I've got some clay shapers on the way, which should make it a bit easier. Been using the metal thing from GW so far. It's not bad, but it lacks finesse..
Just on the subject of Vampire counts stuff, have you seen the mortis engine? Looks awesome but also a balance/pinning nightmare
Shouldn't be any problem with that. Just use a decent poly cement and all the parts will be welded together. It is all plastic so should be pretty lightweight too.
Quick Q for y'all... basing... what, how and when [before or after assembly/painting] do you base your stuff
base after you paint i think is the general way of thinking. if your using resin bases then most people pin the model to a cork or something like that then base after.
Yup, I always base at the end, kinda like a finishing step. Flock the base and paint the edge (yeah, I'm old school) and then varnish to seal it all in.
