Yeh, its the old metal ones. £16, that's more than I pay for most of my warhammer! Going to try some of the liquid metal I've used before, two part mix epoxy metal stuff. It's weird, I stuck my necron lord together with the same super glue earlier in the year, and that's held fine. So I thought maybe the first bottle had gone off, so tried some brand new UltraLoc stuff, but that's not worked either. Could it be something on the models stopping the superglue from sticking? These are all ones straight out of the blister.
If i have trouble i just balance the model so its supported during drying. But that is indeed strange
With metal figures, I have found that is is sometimes best to wash the model before trying to glue it. The reason for this is that they dust the moulds with talc (using an old sock or two, seriously) to act as a release agent. Once the figures come out the moulds, they are just broken off the sprue and tossed in a parts bin to cool, there is no washing done at all before they are packed up.
Yeah, but 382 is badass glue - I tried to pull a metal figure apart after using it once and it just bent. It was almost as good as the epoxy I've got holding "Artemis" together.
Glad you mentioned that... just ordered an ogre finecast today , will have to put away the poly cement....
Metal models never really went together that well, if i can be pinned you pinned it. Suggest cleaning off all the current glue, scraping a few lines into where you want to glue as it gives a greater surface area and then hold the 2 parts together while they glue, a tiny bit of water can help as well. One of the better parts about finecast is its easier to glue a finecast model then a plastic one now.
The finecast stuff soaks up the superglue which lets it lock into the parts as the glue cures. Plastic glues (the decent ones) work by melting the surface of the two plastic parts and welding them together. If you get a decent bond between plastic parts then they are as strong as a single piece of plastic. I normally hold the parts together then drop a very tiny amount of a plastic welding solvent into the joint, or for lager parts like vehicle sections, I pain the solvent down the inside of the join and let it seep into the joint. I am trying some new stuff at the mo for plastics, THF (tetrahydrofuran), it is an industrial solvent which is used by roofing companies to bond together sheets of PVC. So far the joints I have made between offcuts of sprue have been awesome, it took two pairs of pliers to pull a couple of bits apart and that resulted in the tearing of the plastic rather than splitting on the joint. Mind you, it does stink so ventilation is needed big time. Accelerator for super glues can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, sure it cures the glue quickly but it can be too quick and the glue deforms.
Really do not like finecast, picked up krell the other day, to use in my VC army as a weight king and because he does look awesome. Cut him off the spure and parts started falling off him
Oh I'm going to, but just every single thing that I've bought with finecast has some problem, quite annoying tbh
I've bought 4 finecast models so far , no major probelms with any of them , just odered this guy form triple helix as i need a more challenging model to wotrk on and i want a cheif for the ogre army... http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1940296a_99810213003_Golgfag01_445x319.jpg Also just about finished this guy last night...
Very nice discolouration on the brass/copper on the stomach plate! The ogre lord should be fantastic when you're finished
Thanks - Brass is a 1:1:1 mix of tinbitz / snakebite leather / mithril silver , centre of the gut plate is just tinbitz with a wash of good old devlan to dull it down... once dry the gutplate centre was washed again with very watered down hawk turquoise which was also applied individually to each rivet , once dry (with the help of the wife's hair dryer) i washed the whole gutplate again with devlan mud which calms down the turquoise and pulls the colours together... ps sorry to constantly inflict such crap photography on you guys , my galaxy s camera is really crap indoors but its the best i've got....
Since the quality of the work you do is so damn high, I think we can forgive you for the fuzzy shots!
I think its better like that. Whenever I take pictures with my cameras, the models always end up looking terrible in the picture as the camera has accentuated any flaws in the painting, especially if I've got to use the flash.
