"Seems more enjoyable on a PC for some reason." << !!!! How strange! Almost unfathomable. Can't think why? :)

For me the one I really can't get into is Batman Arkham City.

I love Asylum and must have completed it 4 or 5 times. I don't know what it is about City I don't like, but after a few hours I gave up and never went back to it. I think the reason is that it seems just the same, but with more gadgets and more baddies to fight. It doesn't feel original and I found it boring.

I also struggled like hell to get into Farcry 3. Glad I kept going though, as I enjoyed it in the end.

I wanted to like the original far cry. I got bored as soon as I entered a cave. Never went back to it. I will play Far Cry 3 though.

I've put 9 hours into the Witcher and the combat / movement just really bothers me. I'm hoping the 2nd has improved it, as I do own that and plan to get around to it eventually.

Fallout 3 / New Vegas, friend of mine let me try it and I just never really got into it.

Star wars knights of the old republic, played it for 13 minutes and hated the movement system. Probably should give it another try.

Dark souls, put 12 hours into it and it's a very love / hate relationship. It's rewarding when you can make progress but when you get stuck on something that is stupidly easy, it's really frustrating. I don't cope well with frustration.

The witcher is also one of those I should have but never liked games.

STALKER is weird, it's entire ambivalence towards you makes it polarizing. It's the same for Metro 2033.

I played maybe an hour into witcher 1. Kind of liked it... wanted to keep liking it. Didn't go back to it after a while. Witcher 2 nice with 3d glasses... weapon system to me seems complicated. Not used to that type of game. Spell system.... confusion.

Metro I will play again and maybe not get stuck.

In the same situation, bought it full price after people raved on about it, but have no idea whatsoever how to play. Desperately needs a tutorial.

Yes. Very yes. They're excellent games (I think) but they're so punishing and OCD that I get bored after a couple of levels whenever I try to get into one of them. Kinda fun, I guess, but just...too gruelling and obtuse.
Have to agree, even though I really like it. I've never come close to completing it; I always play the first couple of levels and just drift away from it again. The story doesn't grab me the way it should, though the writing is superb.

Yeah, I have this problem with gaming generally. The only game I've been able to take seriously in an adult way in recent memory was the first Mass Effect. It's genuinely intelligent, genuinely mature writing - consequently about half of the gaming industry went OMG BORING and dumped it, but I guess it was never going to be everyone's cup of tea.

Shout out for Garry's Mod, too, which I know in theory and from videos can be amazing but I just lack the imagination and creativity to make it fun.

Oh and Oblivion. But I know why I can't get into it - I've modded it so much, for so long that I've racked up my saturating amount of gameplay hours without playing the game much. Now I'm so sick of staring at the engine that I can't get back to square one and just enjoy it for what it is :(

The Witcher, never really "got" it, even after putting in quite a few hours to make sure it wasn't just a late bloomer.

Left 4 Dead. Very well loved games for many, just not me. Another one I never really "got". While everyone else is running about having a blast I'm always following along wondering what's the big deal. My intense love for Killing Floor might be to blame.

Arma 2. After playing DayZ and actually owning the game I figured it'd be a good idea to try to get into the actual game, build a little foundation before Arma 3 is released. Just can't be bothered, though.

Mil-sims are like pulling teeth, but I think that'll change as graphics improve. They're all about total immersion and realistic strategizing, but Arma II was so butt-ugly and clunky that I couldn't immerse myself in it, much as I tried. I can imagine it being an awesome experience with decent graphics.

Yes, you reminded me... I wanted to like Arma 2. I was impressed by the visuals but I hated the clunky feel and the deliberate mouse lag they introduced. Also it was unstable as hell when trying to configure saitek X52... and it had a big deadzone I couldn't reduce and that's an absolute no-no for me. I will not tolerate deadzone of any kind on joystick or steering wheel.

I found the training boring on Arma 2. Once I got onto the first night mission it was a bit more impressive. It hasn't aged well when put alongside BF3 and it's fluid character animation.

Arma 2 for realism and mouse lag.

Something else I always wanted to like and mostly failed were driving games (apart from Driver back in 99 which I liked enormously).

I've had a fanatec porsche GT3, shifter and pedals for a year and hardly used until the past month. Now I'm finally getting into racing sims a bit more.

Yeah - it's hard to get it set up right - that's for sure. I took me a while to get it 'just so' with my G940 set-up. I hope they get this better by the time Arma 3 beta and full release comes along as the UI is rather clunky in Arma 2. The mouse lag doesn't bother me so much as it is not really a twitch shooter and I generally play it at a very slow pace.

It's probably unfair to compare it to BF3 though as they are completely different types of game. I enjoy both, but BF3 frustrates me with all that rushing around!

I would agree though that Arma is a labour of love and completely understand people having a hard time getting into it. I suspect that the thousands of hours I have put into it is probably the reason why I haven't had the energy to get into other games (like X3) as much as I would have liked.

I was actually impressed with Mass Effect when I played it even though I don't like 3rd person. I stopped with it after a while though. Oblivion was another one I wanted to like. I liked the idea of liking it but I've never been a fantasy rpg player. I find the whole sword and dragon thing quite dull. Nevertheless I liked the oblivion world a bit and skyrim also. I just get the feeling when I play those games that I am utterly wasting my time.

I have little hope of arma 3 being any better. I think they've had long enough to get useable control system setup. Has no one here purchased the Arma 3 alpha?

I still like the idea of liking Arma. I love the flying vids I've seen and flying over the landscape in a chopper is very nice. I got Track IR too which is obviously nice with Arma.

I have A3 Alpha and I think it is an incredible game - even in the state it is in. One of their aims was to try and make it more accessible without dumbing it down. I don't know if they managed that because I am so used to 'what it is' that I don't notice it being inaccessible - if you see what I mean! It is not dumbed down though (OK, this is arguable and there are various discussions about it on the BI Forums). One thing it will never be is a game that you can pick up and play in 5 minutes - it's strength is in its depth and online team-play. A3 is like it's predecessors in that you get out what you put in - and that's not for everyone! It is more akin to a strategic war game than an FPS!

What obvious improvements have they made?

More detailed character animation? Is it approaching the ANT system on BF3?

If you could reduce deadzone on stick and throttle that would be a surprise.

The animations were re-written for Arma 3 - they are more correct now for military stances. There are also now about six or seven different stances from full prone up to full standing. The transition animations between stances are very good indeed. You also have several leaning positions for observing around obstacles. The animations are never going to be the same as BF3 as they are designed for different purposes. Dice have the luxury that they can concentrate much more on the visuals as the battlefield space is much smaller and the enemy AI are not simulated. Arma makes a compromise (especially with ground textures) but it is more than good enough for what it is.

If you play BF3 like you would Arma, you will die a lot. If you play Arma like you play BF3, you will die a lot!

I don't have a throttle or stick deadzone - I turn it off in-game and on the Logitech profile.

Anyway I am putting this thread waaaaay off topic now, so I'll be quiet!

Well it sounds like Arma 3 is gonna be very good. So I still like the idea of liking it....

Will that ever translate to actually playing through it though...

Some games I know I will never fully embrace... Others I don't embrace at first but even a year or more later I can suddenly switch on to (Shift 2 is one example).

The Arma 3 alpha is a good purchase on cost reasons cos you're buying the full game too, right?

I really ought to put some more time in to Killing Floor, I'm still only rank 3 on most classes. Epic fun though.

Metro is top of the list, Arkham City a close second. Stalker is in there too. I get so far but the "meh" response kicks in and I move to something else. I would blame a chronic case of shinyitis but I'm still playing Baldur's Gate (1 & 2), Icewind Dale (1 & 2) and Total Annihilation - they ain't shiny, they're my history :p

TA is my top RTS of all time. I was introduced to it by a friend back in 2002 or thereabouts. We used to play at his place on LAN. I lost every time but 1.... he's a very tactical person while I'm slightly retarded.

Loved the first Witcher, although it took a while for them to sort out the horrible saving and loading times that made the game almost unplayable. I remember revisiting it when the enhanced edition came out and loved it. Still haven't completed it as I kept on losing my saves for various reasons as I got really into it.

Witcher 2 on the other hand...meh, I'm struggling to get into it

Zelda games - I bought Wind Waker and Twilight Princess a while back, I quite enjoyed Twilight Princess but still haven't completed it, started playing Wind Waker the other day but I can't get into it. It seems like all Zelda games since Ocarina of Time are pretty much the same, and while Ocarina of Time was good when it came out, it's massively dated

I think the most recent one I've found disappointing is Dishonoured, I wanted to like it, it had so many things going for it: it felt like I was in a steampunk City 17, and similar gameplay to BioShock and Thief, but I just can't get into it

Pretty much any shooter at the moment I can't get into, I don't really care about them anymore

One thing I am into at the moment is Mario Kart Double Dash - quote of the month goes to my girlfriend - "Damn that yellow hatted *******!"
