Budget: >£1250 Main uses of intended build: Gaming and all out bragging. Parts required: Everything aside from monitor and peripherals Previous build information (list details of parts): None Monitor resolution: 1920*1080+ Storage requirements: 1TB+ Will you be overclocking: Probably Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): None really. Extra information about desired system: Can you guys treat all HDD prices as 'Pre-Flood' if you can remember them This thread is around the subject of "Could my money have been spent better" because I actually built a £1250 build back in late August, it's in my sig. It still needs a bloody SSD and better monitor though D:
I would ignore large HDD's for now and just get a SSD drive, sucks that prices are up but you might as well spend the ~£45 on a better GPU such as an EVGA GTX 570 or something with a bit more VRAM to future proof yourself.
| Intel Core i7 2600k @4.6GHZ | ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z | 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 @ 1600mhz | | KFA2 Nvidia GTX580 1.5GB | | 750GB Sata II (Need SSD+1TB soon ) | Antec DF-85 | Corsair TX750 PSU | ASUS somethingorother Monitor |
So sorry you need a full new build or you want to spend a little to squeeze more out of your current build?
I want "Assurance". I built that computer but, looking back, I'm starting to think some of the stuff is unnecessary. I'd just like to know what you guys would do if you had £1250 to play around with . Also, a little advice on a SSD. Theres so many but they all seem pretty much the same, which is 'best' for price to performace?
I have a Crucial M4 128Gb, need to update the firmware but it seems to be the favourite at the moment. I would say you went overkill with the RAM as a gaming rig will not use more than 8Gb but it isn't doing any damage! Same for the CPU really, overkill but will hopefully give you longevity if games start to use that many cores. GPU is fine as is the PSU, I couldn't comment on the Mobo! I would recommend getting a larger resolution monitor. I am looking at this on my Dell U2711 run by an EVGA GTX 570 GPU and man is it good! You get so much on the screen and games look amazing!
Thats what I was thinking, I should have really gone with an i52500k and 8GB vengeance LP seeing as I had to remove a heatsink to accommodate my cooler -.-. How much would a 'Decent monitor' cost? Just an estimate will do 1080p+
Or you could have gotten XMS3, which i'd imagine would fit nicely. Your build is fine. I would have gone with the 2500k personally, and maybe a bit more storage. On the subject of SSDs, you could have gotten one, but remember, if you are playing online games, you normally end up waiting on other players at some time or another. As an example, I dont have an SSD, while playing BF3 I load in before anyone can move anyway, so all the people with it on an SSD still have to wait. But obviously it would make booting/windows faster.
