    Hello.
I am looking for a new laptop for myself. I need to be able to play games like HL2, BF2 and FarCry on it. I was looking into the Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2 but it is way out of my price range and it is a bit too heavy in my opinion but the price is more important. Do any of you know any good gaming laptops? In the meantime, does anyone know whether I can play the games listed above reasonably on an this ?
    Looking forward to answers,
    Thanks,
    Amit

If you have a budget, a gaming laptop is out of your range, especially if you want it to play BF2. Gaming laptops have poor mobility, battery life and mediocre performance compared to a decent desktop. Tbh, you can buy an awesome gaming (A64, 6800GT..) PC and a nice mobile laptop (say, an inspiron 700m) for the price of a high end gaming laptop.

Not all of em. Asus Z81k and Z81k. Sweet laptop, mobility 9700 Pro is robust enough.

You can find em barebones as well.

I know www.cyberpowersystem.com sells good gaming laptops for a reasonable price considering what you get. I have purchased a gaming laptop from them before, I was very pleased... But be warned with these guys customer service isnt top notch, so when you order, make sure what you have selected is what you want... Also expect to wait 2 or 3 weeks for delivery after you place your order!

But I to think you shouldnt have a gaming laptop... They are nice and such, but I refunded mine to Cyber power and bought me a desktop thats 2x the specs... Havent missed the lappy at all... Except watching Half Baked in the middle of the woods at 3 in the morning

Good luck then. Most of the major vendors still use freaking Intel chips :(

I have a HP zv6000 laptop, it's HP's lower end cheapie... meaning it has one of "those cheap AMD processors" (which outperform their intel counterparts)
Socket 939 AMD 64 3400, 512MB RAM, dual layer DVD burner, 1280x800 screen resolution (15.4" wide screen) and I used to play HL2 and CS:S on it all the time no problems.

I paid just over $1,100 for it.

Unfortunately I decided to upgrade to linux, so valve games are a no-go (but doom 3 and quake arena run nicely!)

See, it depends on what you expect from it...

I recently bought an Acer 3022, and while it's no beast in terms of spec (Sempron 2800, 512Mb PC333, 64Mb mobile x600) it seems to run games fairly well.
Granted, I havn't tried out any modern games, but I used it at a LAN this weekend and ran BF1942 @ 1024x768, max detail, x4 AA, x8 AF and it played fine (for some reason, I can't get BF to use the max res (1280*800) - anyone know why?)

Not bad considering the machine only cost £570...

search out the dell xps 2, really nice system, although you might want to wait as the 7800go laptop graphic chips are scheduled for the end of september

Radiator, my brother had the same problem on his laptop- I believe it was fixed by A) make sure you have the latest Direct X (9c i believe now), and make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. That fixed the problem for him at least.
