So, my old rig just bricked itself, looking for replacement I thought I'd post a spec up on here and hopefully someone who knows more than I do can tell me what they think of it!

I have a zalman flower cooler on my AMD athlon 64 2800+, would that fit on a new intel i7 chip?
I also have an antec lanboy case I could use, I guess that would save me shelling out £60 on a new case.

You should get 6gb of RAM instead of 8, it's cheaper and it's triple channel after all. Your cheaper graphics card alternative should probably be the Gigabyte GTX 460 1gb, instead of the Radeon 5830.

And no, your Zalman Flower cooler will not fit, it only supports older sockets such as Intel Socket 775/478 and AMD Sockets AM2/754/939/940. I'm not too sure about the case, I suggest you stick with the Utgard or something else like the Antec 1200.

There's no real point of having an SSD as a boot drive, you might as well save that extra capacity for a game or two, since you could just have a cup of coffee while your computer's booting anyway.

Oh, and I noticed you don't have a regular hard drive. You should probably get a Samsung F3 1tb, you can find one for around £45.

Hey, thanks for the advice - I wasn't sure about the ram because from what I saw on scan they seem to come as groups of 2, 4 or 8 gig and I figured just buying it all together would be the cheapest option.

I was planning on taking the relatively new SATA drive out of my dead rig, but if you can get an whole terabyte for £45 then that sounds like a pretty awesome deal.

I was a little unsure about the power usage, would I be able to use my old Enermax 420W PSU?

No, I'd say that PSU was in need of upgrading. 650W should be fine for your proposed system and a few upgrades.

As for the RAM, you''d definitely want to look at 6GB triple channel kits like this one.

You could use it in theory, but the Antec in the list will last you longer and has a lot more headroom in it, which is what you want, really.

As for RAM, when on Scan, you need to look in Triple Channel section. Here's the 6GB kit version of the RAM you chose. :D
