Today I was ordered out of my nice warm bed, by my dad, to get my butt into gear and mow the front and back lawns, while my Dad went into town to go and buy a hedge trimmer.

He came back with the trimmer and started work on tidying up the plants overhanging the footpath at the front of our house, when suddenly there was a large spark, and this had happened.

He had managed to cut into the wire of a brand spanking new hedge trimmer, luckily he hadnt managed to hurt himself in the process.

Anyone else managed anything stupider than my father?

My grandparents had a brand new flymo lawnmower, which looks more like a car than a mower. I like anything big and loud so I had a go at mowing the lawn, and promptly ran over the cable with the same outcome as yours. The inline connector flew apart with a loud bang, but luckily I just cut off the connector then re-attached it before the break in the wire. Luckily it still worked :D

Yeah, I had to cut off the wire and attach a new plug also. Shame he cut into it so close to the trimmer, we now have a very short cable to the plug lol.

The RCD I was using didn't trip! I think there must have been something in the lawnmower that tripped first.

We don't have an RCD on that part of the house's electricity, we have one on the new part... but the garage is wired into the old part - which uses old style fuses with bits of fuse wire!

And I agree with iggy - use a petrol mower!! We have one and it's much better than a 'leccy one :)

House electics huh.... for years you could trip out all the zones in the house, warehouse and the office by turning on the Kettle and the Dish Washer in the kitchen... :D My ma kicked my pa's ass when all it was in the end was an incorrecly rated fuse..

We had water run into the main leccy point in the warehouse and had electic fire flames shoot 15feet into the air... Electric Fire ownz j00!!
