Hi guys, Has anyone worked with Garmin GPS_18 receiver before?! I want to use that product to get GPS data in a NMEA format and proccess it on a PIC microchip which supports RS-232 interface and I'm confused between two types of that GPS receiver the one with a cigarette lighter adapter and DB-9 serial interface and the other which has bare wires(LVC). which one shall I use and why?! Waiting to hear from you all. Thanks
have you got a link to the products? try to get a datasheet of them both, or just buy the cheapest. The cigarette lighter one will be designed for car use, is it designed as a speed camera database? or just a gps reciver? makes no difference really the output will be the same. The bare wire one will probably be the same serial output, except may have TTL level output instead of using serial driver chip. This would just mean its easyer for you, as you wont need a seperate chip to convert it back.
if you are looking to read the NMEA data through the RS 232 and show it on an lcd screen via the pic I have something that might be able to help you if you want as this was my final year degree project, just pm me your email addy and I will get it to you.
