Hi im a noob modder here so bear with me :)

I wanted to have an lcd screen that would take up exactly two floppy drive bays. Most lcd screen are low res and pixalated if you know what I mean.
Ive noticed a mod on this site where a guy had a psone screen in the front of his pc. I was wondering if i could get the same effect, but only the size of 2 floppy drive bays above each other.

First of all I thought that I could use a gameboy advanced screen, but then i realised the res wouldnt be that high and it could be a disaster of a job. Is there any way i can get a decent lcd high res screen that size ??

I would want the screen to be able to display anything of my choice on it ( like in the psone screen mod )

Thanks for your help, Lemming.

The GBA screen has been mastered by a select few individuals. However, to my knowledge, there are no public-domain downloads or documentation available.

    Here's a possibly enticing option:

Hmm thanks, I will read through that soon. Im not sure if the screen is going to be a good enough res, are there any packages around i can buy which are relatively cheap and the correct size ??

    Preferably a decent res such as 1024 x 768.
I took a look on earth lcd but the sites screwed up so i can see anything :p

Note* i live in the uk

Whoa, resolutions like 1024x768 in that small of package are going to be hard to source, and expensive if you find one. Either relax your resolution standards, accept a larger screen size, or be willing to pay a big premium to "have it all."

ok then a smaller resolution :)
But i cant have the screen bigger than i stated in the first post.
And i would like the screen to be able to display stuff on my computer , i.e videos, or even a real-time display of my computer.

Im a complete noob with this kinda thing, so all help is greatly appreciated.

Can you make some measurements? I need to know the height and width of the two 3.5" bays, and don't say 3.5" wide, measure it :nono:

    10.5 cm Horizontally
    5.8 cm Vertically

that is the total size of both drive bays together

Okay, so you can manage about a 4" LCD in that space.

I'm not familiar with UK (?) suppliers, unfortunately. You could contact some U.S. suppliers if it comes down to that. Here is one possibility,

Lemmingzappa, you'll be lucky to squeeze a res higher than 480x360 out of a display so small. This is big enough for a lot of divx movies etc though, fine for winamp visualisations, and would suit a simple samurize config :)

I'd give up on the gba idea as its probably even more difficult than the age old question of getting a laptop screen to work connected to a pc. it can be done, but not by many ;)

Is there any particular reason you need the screen to fit in the floppy drive area?

Note: from looking at my floppy bays, it looks like you're going to have to find a very small screen as the height of 2 bays is pretty small. if you had three bays that'd help a lot (like some of the old lian lis)

    edit:
Even the shitty little psone screens will work for a projector. It's all a question of how much quality you need. For a small projection say 3' diagonal, a psone screen should work great, but if you wanna aim for 15' you better have a 1024x768 tft panel in there ;)

I got a decent picture at about 7' diagonal from a 640x480 lcd, and it would have probably looked ok at a larger size, but i couldnt test as my throw distance was limited by the size of my room :duh:
