Don't go giving GCHQ any ideas, we don't want them attempting to put any back doors in Gareth. ;)

Good for them. It's nice to see them get some positive press for a change.

Yes, and they occasionally help to foil the odd terrorist plot too, which is nice. ;)

And all it took was to place everyone living in the UK inside a virtual panopticon. :thumb:

Most of us will get over it. Same as we did with CCTV on the streets. And ANPR.

Most of us will feel a need to control behavior when online.

If you ever needed an example of a virtual panopticon CCTV would be it, the only difference now is that panopticon is now moving from a public space to a private space.

Why, what are you afraid of?

Everyone I know who I've spoken to about it say they will just carry on as normal, as will I.

Personally nothing yet, but I'm intelligent enough to know that may not always be true.

So what you're saying is that if you're normal, or conform to what is perceived as normal you have nothing to worry about?

Probably why they're working on a better version of Gaffer, the old one isn't up to the task of storing information from kids toys, cars, tv's, and peoples groceries shopping.

Not at all, it's just that I'm not a victim of police misconduct, a prisoner or MP, disabled, an environmental campaigner, a journalist, a whistle-blower, a lawyer or have the need for one at present, a person of minority sexuality or identity (PDF), a doctor, hospital worker or patient currently, an encryption advocate or researcher, a part of the Muslim community or a person of color (one that's not perceived as "normal"), or a women being stalked or tracked by an abusive partner, but i guess all those people have nothing to fear or don't fit into your preconception of what's normal.

What was GCHQ's involvement in the Lawrence case? (The first link you posted.)

Edit: Mark Kennedy (the "environmental campaigner" link you posted)? What on Earth has that case got to do with what we're discussing?

I wouldn't know if they had direct involvement, everything they do is secret.

The question isn't if they did or didn't thought, it's why you believe a database like Gaffer wouldn't be used in future operations against victims of police misconduct?
