I recently got a deal from a neighbor for 3x17" Dell Ultrashap LCD's and a one of these for 300 bones! Great deal. I already had a 19" Dell LCD so I set up the 19" in the middle and 2 17"'s on the sides. Pictures to come. Here is the problem. The 19" is VGA only and the 17" are DVI or VGA. I have a nVidia GeForce 6800 (OEM from Dell). My original setup was to use the VGA from the 6800 for the 19" and the DVI from the 6800 for the 17". The last 17" is driven by a Stealth S60 64MB PCI ($19 after rebate Office Max). Using the nView software, I only have choices of single, clone, horz span or vert span. Essentially, I either have a clone of monitor 1 or have a really large monitor 1 spanning two monitors. What I want is a monitor 1, 2 and 3 not a large 1 (divided into 1a and 1b) and a 2. At this point, I have the 2 17's connected to the Diamond and using ultramon everything is working. Is it possible to use the GeForce as "two" video cards and not 1 large desktop? I am thinking about connecting the last 17" as a fourth monitor if I can find the space, but need the 6800 to work correctly.
OK. I don't quite understand what you're asking, so here's trying to understand: You have three monitors currently, two 17" LCD's and a 19" LCD, all mounted up. You're using a 6800 to connect the 19" and one of the 17" monitors, and a PCI card to drive the last 17". However, right now you can only get two actual desktops; one that spans the two cards on the 6800, and one that is only on the last, PCI-connected 17". What you want is three, seperate desktops... If all of this is true, the first thing I would advise is to use Ultramon; But, you mentioned it already, so I'm assuming you're already using it. nView software may be your problem here -- because the PCI card you're using isn't an nVidia chipset, it may be reading the 6800 as one desktop, and the PCI card as another. I would disable the nView software, and only use the Windows multi-mon support and Ultramon to control it, and see what happens. If this still doesn't work, try completely taking out the PCI card and setting up your desktop arrangement how you want it on the 6800, and then put in the PCI card. I have to use a PCI card with my 9800Pro AIW to drive my second desktop, and the PCI card causes a lot of problems with the drivers, even though they're both ATi. That's really the only thing I can think of... Hope it helps
Yes you got the setup correct. I did what you suggested last night, but no go. What happens is that windows only reports one monitor even if both of the monitors are connected to the 6800 and the nView software is disabled. The only time I can see two monitors is when nView is active and then only from within nView. Ultramon doesn't help since windows doesn't know I have multiple monitors. When you say the chip is not nVidia, whose is it then?
The PCI card's chip isn't made by nVidia, it's made by Diamond Multimedia. The only other thing I can think of would be to completely remove all graphics drivers from your computer and reinstall all of them with the latest ones. Could just be a weird querk
I just reread your post and understand what you were saying about the chipset. The nView software ignores the PCI card from Diamond and only shows the monitors connected to the 6800. Again the problem is the modes allowed by the nView software. I may just leave it alone but would like to add a fourth monitor sometime.
Stupid question, but have you rebooted since connecting all the monitors? It's finnicky that way... Or give Ultramon a try.
Yeah rebooted a few times since then with no joy. I am running Ultramon, but it will only work with what Windows sees. Since Windows think I am running 1 large monitor (horz span accross both monitors) I can't enable seperate desktops.
Because opening up programs that span different monitors is annoying. The monitors are considered one large monitor. One is 19" and the other is 17" seperated by 1" of plastic and slightly different colors, contrast, brightness, etc.
