Wow, a PRODUCT launch instead of a PAPER launch!?

    /me falls over.

I do love that NVidia's latest Poser babe is a newsworthy item. ;) Is this only the 7800's, 7800 Ultras, or what? Or are there other versions being released, too? And are they still doing that stupid thing where only the highest end card has SLI capability?

this was a quick move to the next generation, no?

we missised the 5800 > 5900 > 5950 > 5950ultraplatinumballsinyourmouth crap that we usually get before the next generation is released.

well, we got some, but i was expecting much more marketing crap before the next wave.

any ideas on price? newegg typically likes to rape people with their price for the 1st month and a half of a new product. ie suggested retail price $415 newegg price $500

and is it true that the most expensive card is going to be the only card in the line up to have sli?! if thats the case Ill forget it even exists.

Maybe the 7800 will drive down the the cost of a 6800u to around 300-350 and the 6800gt to 200-250. that would be great if that happen then i would upgrade my vid card

Not likely. Much more benificial to Nvidia to just have the 7800s priced above the 6800s. Like said though given a few months the price will start to drop a touch (as with just about any new electronics)

wow nvida would have to be stupid not to have sli on the midrange cards up as ATI support it theoreticaly at least on all cards 9700 up!

Well nothing in the 7800 series will be midrange, but they want to prevent people doing what I did - buy the second best and overclock it to the best for $100 less per card, and then SLI them up. But I think that's still a rumor, imo they'd be shooting themselves in the foot to do that. Esepecially as I'm quite sure they said at one point that all future pcie cards would support sli.

In semi-related news, newegg has both Pentium D's and A64 X2's. Only the OEM 4600+ (and I'd imagine well above MSRP, I only am familar with the 4200/4400 pricing) at this point, but all 820/830/840/PEE on the intel line.

Graphics cards are getting big again! I remember having a VESA card that actually clipped into those support clips that no-one ever needs to use.. ahh memories.

It only looks a little bit longer than a 6800GT/U. Which admittedly are quite a bit longer than the 9800pro which is a little bit longer than a 9600pro which I think was fairly standard for a while. But I think it'll still be several inches short of the support bracket, at least going by my Chenming case which has one.

Hahaha...let's remenisce, mrplow, to the time when a modem used to be a big card and ran at 2400baud. ;)

Good ol' VESA cards...hehe...I think I still have an old Trident or two kickin' around somwhere. ;)

Saw this the other day on overclockers.co.uk, only the advert isn't cryptic and it's in their graphics card section under "7800 series".

I just checked newegg.com for the 4400+ they want $639 for it, about $50-60 more than they should be asking for it!

If I was smart I would have bought it at Tigerdirect for $545 and paid thier crazy $19.76 shipping charge!!! now they want $595+ the $19.76 shipping.
add an sli mobo and the shipping is over $26...

the time it will take for the prices to go DOWN TO MSRP will give me time to save up the extra money to make my dream comp even better :)

    AMD X2 4400+, 2gb dual channel, and GF7 SLI here I come!

I think Nvidia decided that it's current generation was good enough as it was - if you want a 6900, get 6800 x 2 :D

Have they given any specs or info on improvements over the 6 series? Its probably gonna be a little bit better than whats out at the monment and only actually give you 10fps extra for 30% extra on the price of a 6800 U :sigh:

Well im not gonna bother getting exited as its gonna cost stupid money and what I got now runs BF2 demo fine :)

    allow me to say... sweeet!

It will be interesting to see how these babies compare with the 6800 ultra.

If it performs as good as it looks it would be !@#$% awsome! Well.. enough said. go Nvidia
