So, I popped onto Facebook. I got a nice little message from Nvidia on there. "We want to apologize for the confusion around our most recent GF100 update. To clarify, the launch date for GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 is March 26, 2010. This date also coincides with the GeForce LAN event NVIDIA is hosting at PAX 2010. Hope you can attend the show. For more info, please visit: www.nvidia.com/paxeast" Is this news to anyone? Because it certainly is to me. I didn't realise they'll be released THIS early? :O EDIT: Also, GeForce GTX 480 starts at $699 An online PC hardware store, SabrePC.com, has listed a graphics card based on NVIDIA's upcoming DirectX 11 compliant GeForce GTX 480 GPU. And the price: $699 before a $20 rebate. The listing is of a graphics card by NVIDIA partner XFX. The specifications known at this point in time are that the GeForce GTX 480 is based on NVIDIA's GF100 graphics processor. It is DirectX 11 compliant, and has 512 shader units (dubbed CUDA cores), a 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, and multiple tessellation units. NVIDIA is expected to announce the card along with a cheaper variant, the GeForce GTX 470, later this quarter. By early Q2, the company expects healthy inventories. Surprise surprise... I told you guys it was coming up in March at worst during summer. My sources are not questionable.
It's still not a launch but the unveiling of the products with launch dates to come on that day, nVidia really need to start having one net-connected voice instead of the pure farce they have been over the past 12-18 months. Todays announcement of an announcement was ridiculous.
Release date is always shortly after. The above announcement means that the GPU is fully ready, stocks is loaded up by the manufactures, and shipped or will be soon everywhere in the world, for a simultaneous release. This announcement is to say that Geforce and it's series is well ready with it's drivers.
you guys actually think a failing gpu that may be announced at the VERY END of march is a good thing? and on top of that you are naive enough to think that anyone will actually get a retail cardwithin even 2 weeks of this "launch" you guys need to follow your tech news a bit more closely.
As was the 8800Ultra, the X850XT PE, the Voodoo cards.... But honestly I'm more worried about how they're going to sell since there's not going to be too many of them anyways.
Voodoo cards, god I remember those! I had a Voodoo 2 12 megabyte card, expensive but the best card around back in the day (erm 12 years ago I mean lol) On a side note, look at these screenshots! Doom 3 running on a Voodoo 2 card lol Doom 3 Voodoo 2 screenshots P.S) Don't even get me started on the superb Riva TNT 2 32 meg card
Wow, Doom3 on V2? I mean on maybe the Voodoo5 that would make sense, but that's quite impressive...it's a 12mb card for crikes sake!
yeah... ill believe it when i see it. based on the yeilds and other issues being leaked, if they have a working card to show with benchies end of march, id be surprised. not only that, they may have a couple hundred to sell lol...and for $699, it damn near better double up a 5870
I'd take the sabrepc prices with a pinch of salt. I'd also take every word wrote by somebody with blatant extreme prejudiced like charlie with 2 pinches of salt.
I really hope nVidia can at least produce a competitive product because its only bad for the consumer if they dont, for example how little the price of the 5850/5870 have moved over the last few months...
