I'm not going to sing the praises of the NSA or GCHQ but do the leaked documents actually say they have/had access to the SIM encryption keys, i get the impression from what i have read that they breached Gemalto's "internet" network. Is it a case of everyone being so paranoid (rightly so) that we read that they had hacked Gemalto's network and immediately assumed that meant they had access to the SIM encryption keys.
It seems NSA/GCHQ have acquired the SIM encryption keys (from internal memos) and gained access to Gemalto's "network" but not that these two actions are exclusive to each other.
So this is probably going to sound like a dumb question especial after having just watched CitizenFour. But does that mean they do have access to all the SIM encryption keys and that it wasn't through hacking the network but sloppy practices from Gemalto employes ?
