Whoop, it uses Origin. Changes nothing.

Please just polish the game to a gleaming mesmerizing finish. That is all.

Also, once the game is installed, you don't have to run it through Origin. Steam, take note...

when you launch the game, Origin must be running.

same as Steam really. you can create desktop shortcuts of a steam game, and launch through the shortcut, as long as steam is running.

Sorry, decision made: not buying it.

I don't want another games client installed on my PC to play a single game. Steam has and does what I want.

DISCLAIMER: Before any one gets their panties in a twist and decides to convince me that not only am I wrong, but I'm being childish: I'm not crusading. It's my decision. It's personal opinion and personal choice.

    Shite,

While it is the same as steam I still don't like it, simply because that is yet another program that need to be running, more clutter in other words.

if every company starts having their own manager you will at some point have to have 5-10 different programs running, that's "just like STEAM". I like steam solely because I have all my stuff there, I accept battle.net because it only runs when the game runs, and only one login.

I AM going to by this game, but I fear the general direction the market currently takes us. I don't want to have to remember to open/close a program every time I start a game, why is games the only place you have to start two or more programs in order to use one program? (Think GTA4)

i honestly don't see any problem with Origin. Ubisoft launcher, that launcher for Sins of Solar Empire, Rockstar social club, plus olden day's SecuRom, SafeDisk or whatever disk checker.

sure, it's your computer and i respect that. but end of the day, it's only another few MB and sys tray space, not a deal breaker at all.

if people are not buying due to weapon feel too much like MoH (not saying they do), or gameplay feels off. then sure, i understand. i just don't understand why all the loyalty to Steam, and not buying a perfectly good game.

I can see the issue with DRM as bad as securom but I don't get the problem with Origin; it's a bit like cutting your nose off to spite your face but each to their own.

SecurRom and safeDisk? - I bought retail copies and then pirated a copy with that BS removed to avoid it, so that doesn't count for me.

Launchers? - Don't see how you can compare Steam or even Origin to the launchers you’ve listed.

If, for a moment, I took Steam out of the frame, I'd still be incredibly reluctant to install Origin because of my past experiences with EA products of this kind (EA link/Download manager). Come to think of it, the hours of BS I've gone through for my Missus trying to get some aspect of EA link to work properly so she can enjoy what she spent her hard earned pennies on (Even though it is The Sims...) and the mass of BS I went through with MS GFWL give me more reasons not to trust EA's competence with this sort of service. And that is despite what people who have used Origin say. Plenty of people didn’t have any technical issues with GFWL or EA Link, but I had plenty and was far from the only one.

Steam has proven itself to me (Got down on one knee and everything) and my loyalty does sit on that side of the fence but I’d still think a third and fourth time before grabbing BF3 because of my experiences with other EA products/services of this kind.

    Again:
My opinion. I genuinely hope you enjoy the game and you are probably a better man for not letting Origin deter you. I just can’t let it go unfortunately.

Incredible. I'm not buying this godawesome game because I don't like the distribution service. Now I don't hear anyone bitching being forced to download Steam when Half Life 2 was first released. Imagine missing on that because of the exact same reason.

Tell you what, from some of the comments on this thread I'm glad I'm not buying this simply because I wont have to play against complete cretins.

I used Origin in the BETA and it was just like using STEAM but with a different style & layout.

    Didn't cause me any problems.

    no need to turn nasty.

we just wanted to know your reason behind this, obviously previous bad experience with EADM is more than enough to be put off by Origin. since after all, it's the same program with a different badge.

I'm going to jump in here, again with the basic 2 words - Public BETA.

Install it, try it, then make a more informed opinion. That way we can all save ourselves headaches by not having pointless arguements.

DS does not want to install Origin due to previous, poor experiences with EADM. That's fine.
There is no real need to tirade against him like so. His choice.

I would also agree that Origin is such a minor factor in the grand scheme of things that I agree that it is indeed foolish to disregard an excellent game (The Alpha was stunning in my opinion) on the basis of a distribution system.

We all get the opportunity to test it all out FOR FREE in September. We can save the panty twisting until then. :)

Sorry, but I can't be bothered playing nice with idiots.

But it's exactly how you say, wuyanxu: I'm not convinced that Origin isn't EADM with a new look.

I'll be reasonable though: EDIT based on [Ziip] NaloaC's suggestion: I'll try the Beta and see if it and you guys prove me wrong. If you do, I'll hold my hands up and admit that I am wrong and being hot-headed.

This being the internet and "I give you my word" meaning about as much as a pledge from David Cameron, I'll not rage that Parge thinks I'm one of those MW2 hypocrits who were playing the game on release day after spending months in the Steam forums bitching about how they'd never buy the game because of 'x'.

EA's previous attempts to create a digital distribution platform were half baked. I don't think anyone can deny that. However, it does look that with Origin AND the browser based setup for BF3 that EA have decided to put some proper effort into making it all work.

If that is the case, then having some competition to Steam can only be a good thing.. Afterall, corporate monopolies are bad aren't they? (ok, bad example when it's EA we're talking about lol)

As for running multiple instances of different downloaders, it doesn't take a lot to make sure none load on boot and then only use the one for the game you want to play. It's not like you play more than one game at a time. Secondly, we're gamers - and gamers tend to have pretty kickass rigs.. A couple of 'k to run Origin ain't a problem surely...

Finally. I actually love the look of Origin. Its fresh and clean - and when you have loads of games in the library, the little pictures of the boxart makes me happy. Then again, I am a simple soul...

    I'll definitely be getting BF3...

    /2 cents

Got to say I'm not feeling the same hostility towards Origin as quite a few others online have expressed.

I've already Pre-ordered BF3 through Origin and quite like the interface and now seems like a genuine competitor to steam and I think the two will happily co-exist on my taskbar, everything has to start out somewhere right?

EADM wasn't great and I hated having it on my machine at the time but I have no problems with Origin so far, nothing wrong with a bit of competition I guess, will probably keep Steam on their toe's and looking harder to improve what they've already got.
