I feel the same, GD has gone down hill quite a bit... its why my postcount doesn`t increase much anymore, cos I don`t think there is a point posting in threads that are pointless... I only really ever post in gaming, cos its a quiet place, and there is very little pointless bollocks, with GD, there is a lot of pointless stuff, its sad really, because GD was once a nice place

edit: why not just make it so your postcount cant be seen.... I mean if u make it so your title changes every time u get past 100 posts, and after 750 you get your custom title, I mean, basically then users will know how long ppl have been around by their custom title (for those who actually read the announcement before posting)

    just my 2p ;)

I'm not going to side with the spammers here but I think this statement is pretty pompous.

Correct, these are BiT forums and BiT is a site about modding, but aside from that, it's a community and one of the things that keeps me here is the friendly feel that it has. That post from Isaac (not havin' a go here m8) seems to me like there is some reason that those of us who don't post on non-GD forums are some how inferior? I admit, my posts are mainly in Gaming, For Sale and GD but that doesn't mean I don't avidly read the Hardware Forum for information on the latest things - so, because my post count has been generated in this way, does that make me a spammer?
The general gist of this is that people think that a post count gives you a status. Lets be honest, that's why there's so much spam - cos people want higher counts.

I suggest we just get rid of post counts once and for all..

acron^, I think you have to take Isaac's post how it was intended, and I think it was this.

If user a has nearly 2000 posts and regularly posts across all forums, and user b has the same but only ever posts in GD, and both signed up at the same time, what would that tell you?

Generally, if someone has a post count in the 1000s and you only ever see them posting in GD, that should tell you something.

Isn't there actually some sort of user rating system? I think that'd be a good idea, whereby if someone has received some helpful comment they run along to the user's feedback system and give em a good mark.
If someone steps out of line, let a mod deal with it (as giving discrimintory powers to average users is asking for trouble).

I think bradford's got the right idea. If the biggest concern of those in this thread is people being mislead by postcount then that solution would certainly help fix it. Removing the postcount would also be an excellent way of solving the problem.

    I'd disagree with this:
That little registered date underneath our name is there for a reason. Someone who's been here for less than a month and has over 1k posts should only be listened to if their advice seems to be sound. Whoever is asking a question in the forums would most likely be aware enough to know the difference between helpful information and utter tripe.

[edit/ Sorry Phat-At, didn't mean to sound like a bastage earlier. Your point is more than valid.\edit]

why not make the GD posts not count towards your post count?? and then for habitual spammers, lock their post count at 0 and give them the lovely spam avatar and spammer title until they prove themselves otherwise?

How about just getting tough on the main spammers. Have a crackdown and when some one has been warned to stop spamming and they don't delete their account.

i think htat bit does have a damn good way of stopping most spam but unfortunatly you get some

i know ive been guilty of the odd bit og spam here & there:worried:

& admitedly i dont post a whole lot out of the general discussion (well i do post outside of GD but as i am not claiming to be intelegent i would rater read the threads out of GD & lean & not post something stupid & make a fool of myself [no jokes about that )

i do feel that the worst spammers should have somehting done

/me switches on branding iron

but like biggie i have started ramping my posting down a bit but not due to spam, i think we all remember the thread i started when i was overjoyed on finally getting a interview, do i need to say anytihg else?

anyway i think the hiding of post counts is a good idea & the idea of a user raiting is also somethign that would be interesting if it was able to be implemented

    just my 2p

I'm going to close this now as it's moved into the Admins room to discuss.
