I am using Window XP, a few months ago, my laptop started to have some problem. Everyday, it will pop out a box, saying that "Generic Host Process for Win32 Servies has proplem, need to be shuted down......" I can only choose to report it or not report it. Then after a while, if I start the Media Player, I can't use it (however, if i am using media player while the box pop out, i can still use the media player!). If the box pop out when i have not pluged the cable wire, i can't access to internet even if i plug the wire! So, I want to ask what is "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" for? And how can I fix the problem?
    Thank you!

As far as i know the generic Host process is for hosting services that reside in .dlls. becuase the .dll has no way to begin executing on its own it needs the generic host process to get it started. I think it appears in the task manager as svchost.exe

sounds like a ram/pagefile problem to me ... from personal experience i reccommend no less than 512mb of physical ram and 768mb pagefile for running xp. just make sure you keep at least a gig free on yer hdd for swapping, and keeping it defragged helps too. i found that using ntfs as opposed to fat32 helped my paging problems as well.

first thing i would do though is to reinstall the latest windows media player. sometimes those updates are actually a good idea.

svchost is for running ordinary code as a serivce. Its a wrapper program for any PE that is to be run as a service.

So there is some program that is having problems, it would have to be badly written to be needing more ram with that error, i would put my money on either piss poor code, or a virus.

that looks to me like the same old msblast virus it causes the same thing for me the second i get on the internet after a fresh install
goolg for msblast fix and there should be a quickfix along with a scanning program
dunno if that will help but it sounds just the same
