Basically, I have a 240 radiator which I want to quieten down for when I retire my HTPC and have to play my media from my main rig.

I know the Gentle Typhoons are better suited to the task (especially since I can slow them down with a fan controller, too) but they would cost £34 + the cost of fan control. So near enough £40.

Two Silent Eagles would set me back £24 and wouldn't really need a fan controller.

My question is this, are the Gentle Typhoons really worth the £15 premium?

They can move much more air than the Sharkoons and will thus cool your system better.
Depends whether the extra few degrees is worth it for you.

    It really is that simple!

I suggest getting 2 Sharkoon 2000 rpm with a fan controller. Both on the lowest setting will have the same performance as 2 Typhoons. Plus you can always increase the speed.

I have tried Scythe fans, but replaced with Sharkoon since I wanted higher rpm when stressing cpu.

I can say from personal experience that Sharkoon Silent Eagles are excellent case fans (I have five , but not the best for rads. My dual rad struggles to cool my 4870x2 using two sharkoons, but easily cools it with two sunon denki big boys (lol at the name). Because of their relatively small depth, they have a low static pressure (ie their throughput decreases rapidly with resistance to flow, such as fins) whereas a deeper fan has a higher static pressure (and, alas, a higher price). Sunon Denki are worth looking into, as are Yate Loon, just make sure you use a fan controller to keep them on low speed - noisy on full speed :eeek::D

I've currently got mid-end Yate Loons on there, but I'm really looking for a quiet(er) rig. I'm going to drop the overclock and run my Phenom x4 955 BE and 8800GTX (both cooled by the 240 rad) at stock.

Sharkoon 2000s would probably be good, but I'm trying to buy from Ebuyer or QuietPC as they accept PayPal. Unfortunately they only stock the 1000 RPM models. We'll see. and I can get two of them and the fan controllers for £22 from AquaTuning. Damn, yet another option to choose between.

I guess the question is now are two Gentle Typhoons worth £16 more than two Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000s?

The only place I could find them in stock, that accepts PayPal is QuietPC.com (who are quite expensive).
