The is today, has anyone being following this? If you are a voter can you say will you vote or you are from somewhere else how would you vote if you were?

I would be (as you might expect) a consistent FDP voter, I have some issue with bits of their current platform but I would like to see them back in government and they fit my views far better than the CDU/CSU.

In probably typically british fashion i know bugger all about european politics. Based on what little i know I'd probably would go for Merkel if only because it's a known quantity of idiot...

Indeed - if only due to the cautionary tale of other countries that have changed their leaders in the last year or so.:winking:

Given the size of the coalition governing Germany I wouldn't expect much to change.

Is there overtones of the 2015 UK General Election with the SPD being punished the way it has been?

I think the most noticeable thing is the rise of the AfD from nowhere to the 3rd largest party behind SPD and the Merkel machine.

    Last projections I saw 33, 21 and 13%.

Well it'll be a while before a coalition is formed. Bundestag will be a big old mix of parties.

Edit: SPD still refusing a coalition, well their leader is - whether their leader remains there and the SPD stance stays the same who knows. Merkel may hve to look elsewhere.

The German elections just echoed the Dutch elections. Conservatives stay in power, populists push up the ranks, democrats in turmoil and a massive and implausible coalition necessary for a stable government.

Just don't go having a referendum if you fancy staying in.

Gosh, and here's me thinking that people voted right-wing nationalist because they don't want any more Muslim refugees and immigrants in their country.

In any case, the AfD will go the way of UKIP and the PVV. Shouting reactionary slogans is easy. Coming up with sensible government policies is a whole different ball game.

UKIP - anti-Euro group that morphed into a bunch of right-wing racist shitheads
    AfD - same iirc

FN - were always right-wing racist shitheads
    PVV - same

in every instance their calls for take back control manifests as 'make the brown people go somewhere else'

Looks like the cracks in the AfD are already appearing,

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...etry-quits-party-german-election-breakthrough

And more cracks in the Party (sorry, source in german):

I'm sorry, you referred to them as right-wing nationalists (see your earlier posts).

EU in a nutshell this conversation.

Nexxo you know full well that was a post about EU politics in general and not the AfD specifically unlike his other posts.

Can we please leave semantic cock waving out of this thread.

OK, so they are a specific flavour of right-wing nationalists (mixed nuts?). :p

Would be the best chance the UK has of making Brexit work. :hehe:

More people to end up disappointed, then. The party is already breaking up.
